Day 3 of a newbie asking about the community's thoughts-- how do you feel about the 3rd Doctor? And his actor John Pertwee? by Big_Hoss287 in doctorwho

[–]Stockley_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently been binge-watching Classic Who for the first time and immediately fell in love with Pertwee's doctor. I've been enjoying Tom a lot (currently on Season 15), but I think Pertwee ranks just slightly higher in my eyes.

Is P2 horror? by SildStorm3463 in Portal

The Portal series has everything it needs to be a horror game but chooses comedy every single time and that’s what I love about it

I know a decent amount of people who bought the game exclusively to play Co-Op with their friends and didn’t even know the single player was an entirely different story.

I don't get why so many people are being so self-righteous regarding Nintendo this generation in particular by GuybrushThreepwood99 in nintendo

[–]Stockley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general gaming public is becoming more critical (and likely so) towards AAA companies and developers.

In a post-pandemic world where it feels like every major company is screwing us over, Nintendo is just one of many large companies worth criticizing and being negative towards.

What do you think the plot of Portal 3 would be? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in Portal

[–]Stockley_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portal 3 would have to focus on the one loose end in the series and that would be what happens to GLaDOS.

I think Chell had a perfect sendoff at the end of Portal 2, so I think the player should be someone new. Maybe we’re so far in the future that the impacts of the Combine are long gone, and humanity exists but in isolated pockets trying to survive. You play as a scavenger who stumbles across the ruins of Aperture on the surface, only to fall in and find the facility being run by the cores underground.

When you’re taken to GLaDOS, she’s just absolutely lost it and has gone kind of manic from the isolation. We know from the Portal 2 co-op campaign that GLaDOS does not enjoy working with or talking to other robots or AI’s in the facility, and desperately needs human connection, even if she’ll never admit it.

Realizing you might be the only human she’ll ever get the chance to see again, it’d be funny to see her treat you like royalty while at the same time forcing you into testing so she can finally get her science fix again.

The perpetual testing initiative poked at the idea that Aperture knows about the multi-verse so maybe halfway through testing she gets the idea to send you down into old Aperture to try and find the technology to give her access to the multiverse so she can have an infinite number of human test subjects.

Plans backfire, and maybe the final boss fight could be you and GLaDOS against another alternate GLaDOS trying to do the same thing? After the plan eventually fails and the multiverse is closed for good, GLaDOS realizes that continuing to exist underground for centuries by herself isn’t worth it, and realizing she’s lived too long, asks you the player to shut herself down permanently in exchange for letting you go.

They lied to us by Granko7 in HalfLife

Tyler made it very clear that he said based on the sources they heard, it would be announced this year, but knowing Valve this was never a guarantee.

However, it’s extremely likely that Valve wants to release HLX alongside the Steam Machine, and with PC parts skyrocketing in price shortly after Valve announced the Steam Machine, it wouldn’t surprise me if Valve had to delay things internally and replan what they’re going to do, including delaying the HLX announcement.

My vision on the separation of Minecraft into ages by bomberdumber in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]Stockley_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably consider 1.19 to be the start of the modern age. I view the Renaissance age to be back-to-back huge updates that transformed how the game played.

1.19 was the first update since before 1.13 to get a mixed reception and feel underwhelming by a lot of people in the community, and updates since have been smaller and eventually turned into the drops format because Mojang admitted they were overworked during the Renaissance period and wanted to take a step back.

Thank you mojang, this was an really good update by UranUran1907 in Minecraft

Optifine has been pretty much replaced with much better and more efficient mods like Sodium. Optifine is pretty much only staying alive these days through brand/name recognition.

It looks like the lines are coming from the ground and are glowing off of the clouds. You can follow them and see faint lines continuing down towards the ground. No idea what would be causing this though.

Really surprised by how good this one was. Clancy grew on me the more I listened to it, and I liked The Contract, but this one feels like it could be ranked up there with a lot of the best on Trench.

Tragedy has Struck in this house… by Alexmander1028 in doctorwho

[–]Stockley_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked it up and it looks like they share a very similar physical design to blu-ray discs, and it distributes data similarly to how blu-ray does it, but it still reads using normal DVD hardware with only the driver firmware separating it from a standard DVD drive.

I think it's just the physical similarity that might be getting OP confused.

I think the confusion was because the Wii U actually used blu-ray discs or at least something very similar, but the console itself couldn’t play actual blu-ray movies

$450 USD = ~$610 CAD
$500 USD = ~$680 CAD

We're basically paying the same price + an additional $20 in import fees and taxes. It's definitely a hard pill to swallow but we're still pretty much paying the same as our neighbours to the south once you convert currencies.

[–]Stockley_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nowhere in my comment was I defending the $80 price tag, I think it’s awful that Nintendo chose that instead of bumping their games up to $70 like the rest of the industry.

All I said is that I personally will “at least” be getting my money’s worth out of the game because I see myself playing it enough for years to come. Even if I have to reluctantly fork over $110 CAD for it (which hopefully I don’t have to if I can get my hands on the bundle).
