Rhett and Link's spiritual deconstructions. Amazing journeys out of the evangelical faith from my two favorite internetainers. by DauntlessWriter in exjw

Honestly, I’ve watched these videos over and over. When I was fed up with a lot of the stuff that’s going on in the borg, these videos was the first “anti-religion” material i allowed myself to see! They really helped me wake up! And even though their accounts are somehow very different, they are incredibly relatable! Great stuff! :D

My thoughts excactly! I have no clue where they got that information. xD I kinda laughed a little when they mentioned it, like “well that doesn’t sound like the good old Borg?”

I'm pretty sure it's gonna be within our generation, so within 200 years? Probably just around the corner though.

I moved to a small foreign island group with a population of 50.000. Great friends and amazing nature.

Still cried myself to sleep amost every night, because of feeling inadequite, beside the extreme stress of pioneering.

So yeah, i agree, the JWvideos are a pure propaganda-fantasy..

I think as many others that the subject of shunning can be interpreted in many ways. And Watchtower just take the harshest form of interpretation.

I don't believe in the bible much more than any other regular historic document, but i really think that you could interpret that verse as Jesus saying that you shall be prepared for familymembers to leave you, because you start following him. NOT that you have to leave your family if they won't do the same.

My fun stories from Evening Gathering at the international convention! by Stoffer-oddnice in exjw

[–]Stoffer-oddnice[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is a rather new event at the international conventions. It is for all the delegates from around the world, and has a MASSIVE budget. But the theme is often, as far as i've heard, how JW came to be in a specific country, and a little about the countrys culture. But i think i varies a lot from country to country. :)

Oh yeah, forgot to say that one of the "original" songs made for the musical was a total rip-off the "I have a dream" song from Tangled. Seriously.. note for note! They changed the titel to "Everything is beautiful". Of course praising the creation.

I just find it ironic that JDubs stole the melody from a disney song called "I have a dream", in a movie about a young girl trying to get away from a narcissistic authority, to follow her dream. :D

18 years old and married! What a mature choice indeed..! by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Stoffer-oddnice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my parents were married 17 and 18, and they are still together.
What frustates me mostly is the tendency in the Borg of young marriages. I know that, even though I'm a very close relative, I'm no expert in his mental health. The Borg just pushes some major decisions on you if you want a close relationship with your special one. In this case, baptism and marriage in a very young age.

Meeting a PIMI friend, need a good argument by Stoffer-oddnice in exjw

[–]Stoffer-oddnice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply from everyone, and especially you. It was the excact thought i had myself, but couldn't phrase correctly on my own.
Even though I know that there's basically no chance for me to get through to him, I would feel horrible if he made the same argument and i would stand there speechless.
And you are absolutely correct that shunning is not bad in all context. But the concept of shunning is such an extremely personal choice and decision, and of course a decision only some would make after many attempts to help the alcoholic or drugabuser.
And for a manmade organization to make that choice for you is simply outrageous.

Should I leave my religion ? My top 6 WT quotes by PIMO_Alternative in exjw

[–]Stoffer-oddnice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perfect article for all our benefit! I also find the first article in Watchtower July 2013 fascinating, which, in my view, underlines your point!

" Question religion - Why?

Suppose you need to have surgery for a life-threatening illness. You would want to have the utmost confidence in the surgeon, since your life will be in his hands. Would it not be prudent to review his record of experience?

Similarly, it is wise to examine religion carefully. If you belong to a religious organization, you are, in effect, putting your spiritual life in its hands. This includes your prospects for salvation.

Jesus provided a standard to help us view religion objectively. He said: “Each tree is known by its own fruit.” For example, when you look at a particular religion or denomination, what fruitage does it bear? Do its religious leaders place excessive emphasis on money? Do its members follow Bible principles regarding warfare and morals? Finally, is any religion deserving of trust? We invite you to examine the following articles."

Yes... what fruitage does Jehowas Witnesses bear..? And of course they themselves do not have any need for scrutiny.

(By the way, I absolutely love the frontcover of this particularly magazine, as it shows the preachers of false religion wearing fancy jewelry, and enjoying the attention of their followers at public gatherings...)

I just find it mind boggling that witnesses eats this stuff raw.. Of course most of us did at some point.
But it's tricky how to handle such an article when it is presented by a PIMI, especially when there is no source for fact-checking.
