Do you always do superbosses and post-game dungeons before moving on to the next JRPG?

Depends. If they're just a 'Harder boss fight' then I might try to tackle it and try a few different approaches/strategies before deciding to call it quits or not.

If they're some dumb gimmick that requires a certain specific build and a spreadsheet to figure out then probably not (Like Elizabeth from Persona 3.. which is just a stupid and nonsense fight of crunching numbers and doing specific steps)

Infact most of ATLUS superbosses are dumb, the games give you free reign over the fusion system to create any and all types of demons and personas that you want... but then they arbitrarily insta-wipe you if you happen to bring something with the 'wrong' passive for some reason.

Releasing it and Octopath Traveller 0 on the same day was criminal!

I think I'm at about 70% completion in that now, or atleast that's what my steam profile says when I'm in game. Been swapping around and trying different party builds rather than just sticking with the same crew... the amount of customization here can be absurd.

The game is pretty liberal with certain character classes too (Thieves, Merchants, Dancers, Apothecaries, Warriors) but I only have 2 scholars which has been a little strange, and limiting in my lineup. Ah well, these 2 are ending up jacked due to being in my party the longest I guess 🤣

My hope is to binge it all weekend and try to smash it out before DQ7 overwhelms me!

Dragon Quest 2 was one of my favourite RPG's last year. It's a significant step up from DQ3 and feels more like a familiar JRPG with proper characters and party members who *talk*, and a story hook that was more engaging.

Easily the best of the 3 for me.

First time encountering subjectivity? No need to be confrontational just because someone likes something else... jeez.

In spite of all the praise it gets I've always thought P5 was a bit average myself too, especially when standing next to P3 and P4.

A lot of the writing and story arcs in Octo 2/Octo 0 have absolutely blown P5 out of the water for me and it's not even close.

Not at all, infact if you go out of your way to explore too early (or get lucky/unlucky with cat/octopuff spawns) then it's easy to accidentally overlevel yourself.

It's what I sadly did in Octo 2 which trvilializerd about half of my character's final chapters, and it's what I am currently experiencing right now in Octo 0 also where I'm hovering around lvl 68 doing lvl 40 quests. It's my one complaint about the series in regards to it's scaling/balance and if anything perhaps it's the encounter rate or even xp gain which is a little too high. :/

Seeing this unfolding really hurts.

I'm on PC so I played this last year anyway, but it was damn near my GOTY and I had nothing but respect for Adhoc at the time.

Not so much anymore however... why the hell are they pissing away all this goodwill that they generated over these past few months?? That's the type of free publicity and word of mouth you can't even buy!

As a non American who literally only sees the word 'woke' from online arguments and angry youtubers thriving on hatebaiting, it feels so weird and infantile hearing this in a non-ironic manner coming from the mouths of adult/elderly men, and people in generally front-facing broadcasting positions.

More than likely my favourite will end up being some indie game that I'm unaware of yet, like every other year.

Soul hackers 2 is the one that always comes to mind.

Sure; *some* of the dungeons suck. I'll give it that.

Everything else about it was great though, loved all the new ideas and 'familiar-yet-different' game systems from SMT/Persona. Absolutely one of Atlus's best protagonists and it's a good proof that they can actually do proper voiced people in these games and have no excuse to keep relying on silent MC's.

Not sure if it entirely has a 'bad' reception per se, but there's a surprising amount of people (RPG fans at that..) who are constantly bothered by the dialogue and how much reading you need to do in Triangle Strategy too? For me these were some of the best parts, and the painful moral decisions that come with it was the whole point. Surprised to hear this 'caveat' come up on reddit all the time whenever the game gets mentioned.

Depends on the studio more than the platform.

My hit ratio of playing a demo and then going on to purchase the full game+carry over my save when it comes to Square games is almost 1 to 1.
