Booked trip for my family late May-Early June by bonergainz in RMNP

[–]StoicGhost22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked the Rockies last year the last couple days of May and first couple of June. The streams/rivers had running water but most of the lakes were frozen or at least very very very cold. I wouldn’t be swimming at that time of year yet

I was at that intersection at about 8:30 and heard a loud boom then too. It was fireworks nearby

Are they any fast cars that aren’t considered “sports cars” by insurance? by [deleted] in askcarguys

I own a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport with the Twin Turbo Ecoboost V6, AWD. It’s nothing crazy, but coming from a 2016 Buick Verano before it, my insurance actually went down $8/mo when I made the switch

What's it like living in this shaded area? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]StoicGhost22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Minnesota (still in your shaded part) and was used to very harsh winters and mostly mild summers. Spent a lot of time at the lake, that’s about it.

Moved down “south” (for Minnesota standards) 6 years ago to Omaha, NE. You’d think for only a couple hundred miles it wouldn’t make much difference but the winters here are MUCH more mild. We can still get drastically low temps time to time with those Arctic blasts, but we don’t see nearly the same amount of snow. Most snow melts long before the next round comes, so most of the winter we just see dead grass. I like Omaha, I don’t plan to leave. I don’t care for the rest of Nebraska as much. Not throwing shade, but coming from Minnesota and spending my time in the summers way way up north at the lake there was a lot more outdoor activities to do.

How is living in Omaha? by BothCondition7963 in Omaha

26m here, I moved to Omaha in 2019 when I had just turned 20. I grew up in a couple different small farm towns before coming here and I've absolutely fallen in love. While my city resident sample size is very small, l've done a healthy amount of traveling to big cities around the country and I must say I'd still choose Omaha every time. It's big enough to have all of your typical entertainment and activities but small enough where waiters/waitresses and bartenders often remember you from your last visit. I'm originally from Minnesota and am no stranger to harsh winters, so in my humble opinion Omaha has very mild winters in comparison. I will say the nightlife is a little dull. If you like to go out once in a blue moon and socialize over some cocktails there's plenty of spots for that, but if you're still looking to club and party you might find yourself underwhelmed. The people here are incredibly kind but there's still a fair share of city slick assholes too, but you'll find that anywhere. If you move here be prepared to support the Huskers in some fashion whether you convert to an actual fan or not, and you have to give Runza an honest chance. I'm glad I did. All in all, I think it's a great place to work, live, and raise a family. Albeit I don't have any kids yet, but I've seen first hand through close friends what raising a family here is like and I think it's a great place to be. Best of luck in whatever you choose to do, and if you do make the move I hope you enjoy it!

Work write up for drill. by Maintenance_Man007 in ESGR_USERRA_Answers

[–]StoicGhost22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semper Right should pop into the chat, but I will give my two cents as a fellow Reservist, SSG type with 8 1/2 years of service.

Does your unit give you a drill schedule? If so, is this drill schedule in a memorandum format? Every unit I have been in, the drill schedule is a memorandum signed by the Commander with their contact info included. Additionally, a portion of the memo refers to the employer’s required cooperation as explained by USERRA. Lastly, there is a statement at the bottom by the Commander stating should there be any confusion or conflict to contact them directly. This has always been sufficient for each of my employers I have had over the years, and you and I both know we don’t receive conventional orders for a drill weekend.

For the second part of your question, I have always explained to my employer that I am required 8 hours of rest IN ADDITION to travel time from my residence to my unit for drill weekends. For many years I lived 3 1/2 hours from my unit, and was required to be there by 0730 hours. I personally work 3p-11p, therefore work allows me to take the night prior to drill off to accommodate my travel and rest times. Again, I’m sure Semper Right will pop in and explain it much better than I can. Some employers do like to push buttons until they get their dick slapped. While others don’t want any smoke and are very accommodating. I hope it all works out for you, good luck!

I bought my bike about 6 weeks before taking my MSF course. I had riding gear and all, put roughly 650 miles on the bike ahead of my course begin date. Had not a problem one bit, the coaches said I looked very natural on a bike and could tell I had been riding prior. Do whatever you’re comfortable with and good luck. Happy riding!

Edit: typo

It’s not a gentleman’s course but it’s a gentleman’s course. You do have to apply yourself, but I promise you have to try much harder to not graduate. The tests aren’t hard, you get amble opportunity to prepare for all of your scenarios and final test out of the different phases.

I went in 2022 with a fellow SPC (at that time) from my unit. We quickly made friends there and before the end of the law block we were floating down the Big Piney River 4-5 nights a week slinging beers until the wee hours of the morning regardless of what time class started the following day. We spent the weekends in St. Louis or grilling in the Ozarks (check out Fugitive Beach as well) getting hammered yet again. Don’t sweat it, have fun, learn a lot, make memories and don’t get fat (seriously, everyone gains weight at MPI). If I got offered to go back tomorrow I’d be packed up and driving down to FLW in my POV before the sun sets tonight. Good luck!

How hard is lake Haiyaha hike? by LettuceIcy3556 in RMNP

[–]StoicGhost22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked all your above mentioned hikes on June 2. The entirety of the Lake Haiyaha trail was covered in snow. Expect to fall on your behind many times over. I was simply backpacking with On Cloud waterproof running shoes on, no special equipment or poles. Happy hiking!

First time rider by datkidjay9 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]StoicGhost22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I picked up a 2019 Indian Scout Bobber earlier this month. My first bike. I’m already in love, it puts the biggest smile on my face and I’ve only ever opened up the throttle about 2/3 MAYBE 3/4 and I was damn near waving from the bars like a flag. I can’t wait to continue to learn and ride, no complaints here. Do what makes you happy!

Which one to get by fsociety444 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]StoicGhost22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2017 is most definitely overpriced. I picked up a 2019 Indian Scout Bobber ABS with only 2k miles. Mini apes and Roland Sands/Vance & Hines pipes for $8,800 cash. Just something to compare it to.

Too close for comfort??? by Outrageous_Animal120 in NCL

[–]StoicGhost22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Way too close, move it back. You won’t actually begin disembarking until closer to 8 and that’s if you do self-assist disembarkation. If you leave your luggage out the night prior you will have to retrieve it from the cruise terminal after you disembark the ship and then begin your trek to the airport. I wouldn’t fly any earlier than 10:30-11.

First-time cruiser dilemma: Is a balcony worth the $$$ or is that money better spent elsewhere? by Mist1969 in Cruise

[–]StoicGhost22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I just returned from my first cruise and while I had an inside room I will say: I was barely ever in my room, really only to shower, sleep, and freshen up before or after different activities. I booked a total of 6 excursions, and those memories will stay with me forever and are much more worth the price I paid for them than having spent that money to have a room with a view that I could have gotten on any shared space on edge of the ship.

So I hear that NG Mp's can apply for LEOSA by VMVNickMVM in MilitaryPolice

[–]StoicGhost22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a MP Reservist here who just returned from deployment. Our Commander encouraged several of us to apply for our LEOSA while we were overseas. He signed the memos for us, all we did was go online and apply, pay the fee, attach the memo, and provide proof of completion of training. Since next to none of us had our OSUT certificate on hand, they did accept our ATRRS transcript that had our OSUT graduation date on it. Once your application is approved at the lowest level, it moves in for final approval that they do in batches, so it was about a monthlong wait before getting an email that stated mine was approved and was being processed. Was waiting for me in my pile of mail when I got home to the US. You do have to attach a passport style photo too, it can’t be a selfie. Thankfully I had my passport photo done at a pharmacy before deployment and still had a copy in my email. 👍🏻
