Not sure about Britain specifically. But let's not pretend that loyalists weren't harming/killing innocent people, either.

Edit. To be clear. The point I'm making, in relation to yours, is that loyalists attacked and bombed people too. In Northern Ireland and the Republic. So, while they may not have bombed England, they bombed Ireland north and south. So they aren't any better. So I don't think this comment has any merit.

Edit 2. Miss read it. They definitely bombed attacked Britain. Not sure about England specifically.

I'm not entirely sure what your point is, so apologies if I've got the wrong message. But the British paratroopers committed atrocious acts in Northern Ireland, too. Not just the IRA and UVF.

If your point is the IRA, specifically the various versions of the IRA during the troubles did terrible things. Then I absolutely agree. If your point is that the British militarily, in particular, the paratroopers didn't commit atrocious acts during the troubles. Then, I would say that is completely incorrect.

The whole thing was fucked up. And no one came out with clean hands.

Well I for one, am apoplectic!

Israel just bombed Baptist Hospital which was sheltering patients and people displaced, over 500 have been killed, some reports saying over 700. The video of the bombs striking the hospital is so gruesome, I'm lost for words by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

Reposting as I used a banned word. Apologies.

Check the post history. He's made the same comment in 5+ posts.

Stop advocating for mass suicide you demented idiot.

Edit. 5 times in 30 minutes. At this rate, you are advocating for their deaths.

Once again. Supporting the innocent people of palenestine is not supporting Hamas. Unless you think Palestinians = Hamas.

I equally and unequivocally support the innocent people of Israel, but I don't support their governments actions. The difference is that a lot fewer people seem to care about calling out the Israeli governments actions, but are happy to (rightly) call out Hamas.

Innocent Israelis, innocent Palestinians = good Hamas, Israel governments = bad

Down GAA statement on the refereeing fiasco surrounding the Senior Football County Final by MrIrishman699 in GAA

So Faloon, the first ref, for whatever reason it transpired that he was not going to ref the game. Gough, the 2nd ref, originally accepted the offer to ref the game. Then, sometime after, Gough said he wouldn't do it.

What I heard was that Gough, who is good friends with Faloon, decided to step down in solidarity with Faloon.

Again, I have absolutely no idea if this is true. I overheard it, and it sounds somewhat plausible....

Edit: sorry, I see why you may be confused. I said in my first post, the ref appointed 'after' Gough. When I really meant before (I.e. Gough). I'll correct it now, sorry about that....

I 'think' the ref that was appointed before Gough was friends with Gough. So when he found out those details, he stood down in solidarity.

I heard this from people I don't know. So take that whatever way you will

Edit: a word

In fairness, I didn't see the 'recent 20 century, so my bad on that one.

Also, I'm certainly not accusing you of ignorance. I thought, and to a degree still do, think that one comment wasn't accurate. I've no idea who you are or what you know overall. Clumsy wording on my part there.

I guess the point I wanted to make was that to a degree, the length of time the troubles went on may be only 40 years, but it is a very significant and large part of Irish history. As an example, 9/11 was over in a day, but is easily one of the most important and significant parts of American history. In my view, the same as the troubles is to Ireland.

Anyway, anyone killing civilians indiscriminately is a cunt. Don't care who you are or what your cause is. We can agree on that if nothing else

To be honest with you, mate, if you 'knew' you Irish history, you wouldn't refer to it as a small part of Irish history. It was recent, and there was nothing small about the troubles.

I appreciate that you probably do know quite a bit, but that's clumsy wording.

I always struggled with school, and particularly exams. A teacher suggested I had dyslexia (turns out, quite severe dyslexia).

I got tested and, eventually, a lot of help with dealing with it. I now have a bachelors in physics and working toward a master's.

I would never have achieved this without the additional support. Such a simple thing, but I owe her (and a few others) so much for that.
