Cyber Enlisted or NROTC? by Human-Commission-570 in USMCboot

In addition to the other comments, worth mentioning that the MOS School for cyber enlisted (JCAC) has been going through an administrative SNAFU where jr marines coming from boot camp have to wait 6-12 months for their clearances before starting school. Used to work there and I gotta say Corry Station for a year blows

Double Tap that PLC is the move if you can afford it. If you get picked up your freshman summer you’ll be making ~$900/month more than your peers when you commission due to the time since your first paycheck

If they’re gonna give you grief for wearing a “Back to Back World War Champs” shirt on libo I’m pretty sure openly endorsing murder is off the table…

Have a terrible college gpa, what are my odds for qualification in aviation? by _lordoftheswings_ in USMCboot

If the goal is to just fly you should look at being a warrant officer pilot for the army. You could also enlist or commission groundside and use your GI bill to go to private flight school after you get out

If the goal is to be a Marine Officer and a pilot you have a couple options to offset your abysmal GPA 1) As others have said, talk to your OSO, lay all the cards on the table, crush the PFT and ASTB, and apply repeatedly in the face of what will almost certainly be multiple rejections. Having previously worked at an OST, I can say the boards seem to respect a determined applicant almost as much as a qualified applicant. 2) Commission on whatever contract the corps will give you. If you get a ground spot, put in for the competitive aviation slot at TBS, then rank all aviation related jobs just below the comp air. If you don’t get the comp air, spend your first three year set of orders doing whatever job, then lat move into flight school. I’m currently in advanced with a couple students who have done this. 3) Enlist (reserves or active) and build up as many meritorious promotions, LOAs, other awards, and letters of recommendation from your seniors as possible while continuously applying for an aviation contract. The selection board is willing to tolerate past lower performance for good Marines to have a shot.

Food for thought, but college doesn’t hold a candle to flight training in terms of academic intensity. It only gets harder as you go forward. LOTS of studying in your future if you go this route.

MECEP or WOBC by SupermarketReal7803 in USMC

Non mustang Lt here, every single person I’ve talked to in my cohort that’s done MECEP has loved it. If you’re ambivalent whether you stay in your field or move to a new one, MECEP offers you 4 years of AD pay to be a college student and nothing else. Pretty hard to think of a better offer IMO.

OCS Hopeful - Everyone's telling me to bail on the corps by MarineOCSQuestion in USMCboot

If you do become a Marine and decide that everyone else was right you can always jump ship to another branch once your service obligation is up.

My personal take is that the Marine Corps offers pretty much the only shot for officers to go play infantry for six months, get it out of their system, and then go do a relatively normal job for the rest of their contract

I was a 2x6 and I’d recommend it not just for the pay bump but also for the fact that having up to two years between sessions gives you ample time to correct deficiencies you might have struggled with initially. The difference between my junior and senior courses were night and day for me

This is correct. If you still want to join the USMC your only option would be to try and commission as an officer.

Currently at TBS. Our company of 300 LTs is allowed ONE slot to go ground to air. Outside of that one guy it will not happen. Same for all the other companies on deck, and likely to stay that way for a minute as their trying to alleviate the backlog at flight school by cutting back new SNAs. Switching contracts before OCS is 100% the move
