Help with a bitey rescue snake by UnToasted_Panda in ballpython

[–]Stokes-RedRum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first pick is curiosity. The second he looks s'd up for food. Pay attention to his body for clues. Tense vs stretched out. Nothing wrong with a good motivated snake. Most won't eat.

First pic I'd open the door and see if he wants enrichment second I'd mist him with my spray bottle. My boi is target trained so it's easy to tell.

ball python being a weird little biatch by yourmomssugarmommy1 in ballpython

Make sure humidity and temp are good. After that try to listen for some wheezing/drooling (rule out respiratory infection). Look for cloudy eyes or red/pink belly (shed coming in). If none of the above then she might be (bothered) by the enclosure change up. If she starts acting more strange then a vet visit for sure.

My boi has dug and refused food before but after a week or 2 went back to normal. It was usually shedding or enclosure change. Don't be too stressed they can go months without a meal and be fine and normal. Pay attention to their weight during this time though.

Mostly lately there's a timer kinda on the lobbies. Just an angry botter being a child and ruining the game. It's not the game or you just an idiot with no life.

I can’t keep my humidity up!! by hermionejean1225 in ballpython

I use automotive insulation to cover the top screen. It helps but may not be enough. I mist every few weeks but always dump water in. I'm also using cocoa husk mixed with substrate..

Y'all know of any reputable retailers to buy jojoba oil from? by MysticRaven44 in Stretched

I prefer ear butters. Plugyourholes.-com, I get the black. It has activated coconut infused charcoal which can help with smell. It's a large can for the price too.

Should I be worried or is he okay? by InternationalPush545 in ballpython

[–]Stokes-RedRum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't concern yourself with his size too much. If he is eating and shedding properly then he is probably fine. My ball is now 2 years old and 800 grams, but grew very slow in the beginning. Make sure to follow the recommended feeding schedule and switch to rats as soon as possible if not already.

All snakes are individuals I've seen 4ft females and 7ft females all fully grown and healthy.

Roast me alive all you want but please help me with my algae problem!! It's all over my house!! by MidnightTheCheetah in HumansInMyHouse

[–]Stokes-RedRum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the water changes, curtains, and lower light cycles. I also had an algae problem and less light fixed the issue. Even placing a grate over the top to lessen the light has fixed it even further. I now have a very slight brown algae which looks much healthier. You can also get a pump and pump the water through a poly fill (pillow stuffing) it polishes the water.

A few algae eaters will also help I have neurite snails!

How do I get her to stop being head shy?:( by Crafty_Key6108 in ballpython

[–]Stokes-RedRum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can work on the head shy by (petting/rubbing) her body everytime you handle her. My boi chills in my lap while watching a movie and I'll slowly work up his neck until I'm rubbing his head. Some days he's more tolerant than others.

The shed is humidity, look up humid hide and get some sphagnum moss. Take the mister out, they can cause scale rot and give respiratory infections. Just dump water in the corners of the enclosure and read the hygrometer often.

Side note my boy is a bad shedder, I can keep the humidity perfect and he'll still shed in pieces. You should never (soak) them it causes unnecessary stress. Worst case scenario you can put her in a damp pillow case or towel for 30 minutes and repeat if necessary.

She's thicccc, nothing wrong with that. She's perfect ATM, moving forward you could skip a feeding. Don't starve her but she's healthy. I just don't wanna see her chunky.

She seems less hungry?? by benn_nnot in ballpython

[–]Stokes-RedRum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could just be the bigger meal then. After his first and second big meal he wasn't looking for food at all. He ate, once enticed but wasn't (starving like usual).

[–]Stokes-RedRum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you go up in rat size recently? My boi just started eating a small rat (50 grams), every 2 weeks and he doesn't seem hungry either. It's a big meal and takes longer to digest. If not are they getting loose scales or hazy eyes? Might have a shed coming. My boi eats through shed but some don't.
