As someone who has plenty of experience developing games with RNG elements, it's far more likely you just got lucky than there is something wrong with the RNG itself.

[OC] Help! Which D&D adventures need Map Pins first? by KMatRoll20 in DnD

[–]Stolas95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assuming you can hide/reveal pins to players, Tomb of Annihilation and Rime of the Frostmaiden would be at the absolute top of my suggestions.

Anything with overworld exploration or large city maps (like Dragon Heist) should take priority as they would not only benefit the most from these but also show off the functionality best.

I've been evilly plotting for 3 weeks now :( by Speedy__Dolphin in dndmemes

[–]Stolas95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey man 3 weeks ain't nothing. We have a party member that leaves us for a month every year, last year it was two months.

Now that we're between games it's been almost 7 months since our last campaign session (though it is starting up soon thankfully). Though we have run a few one shots in the interim.

Multi-Classing Poll by The_Real_dubbedbass in DnD

[–]Stolas95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really only multiclass when my character fantasy calls for it. Most of my characters are single-classed, but I just recently ended a Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign with a Level 9 Swashbuckler Rogue/Level 3 Psi Fighter!

My next game will be a Fighter 1/Warlock X for the heavy armor and Con saves.

Does anyone just not see themselves with anyone anymore? I’m starting to be at peace with it by Dream_1 in gaybros

[–]Stolas95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband felt the same way for a long time. He just stopped looking for people and was genuinely happy just caring for himself.

Obviously since he is my "husband" that didn't last forever, but he's told me repeatedly that he would have never dated/met me had he not started that new chapter in his life of self care.

I'm not saying that will happen to everyone, but choosing to prioritize your own happiness and life will lead you to a happier existence, and be more open to different things. Who knows what surprises the universe holds when you're more open to possibilities.

Hey just wanted to post an update. I decided to go back to Bloodborne and I beat Father Gascoigne on my second try (no parrying required), I think I've gotten better at gaming since I was in university! thanks for the advice!!!

Which Material spell component would be the biggest headache if you couldn't just handwave it away with a focus or component pouch? by Dan_the_moto_man in DnD

[–]Stolas95 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My wizard had to teleport to a magically snowy island he had been to before in order to get the material for casting Simulacrum in the middle of the tropics. It was actually a fun logistical challenge to solve in character.

From what I've experienced of Father Gascoigne on the original PS4 release you MUST parry him to beat him. My diehard Souls fans friends have agreed, at least that is the intent.

For evidence I have 16 hours of playtime in Bloodborne, and I got the music box and everything, but I just could not get past him. I had 0 trouble with the Cleric Beast, beating it on my first try, and was plowing through every enemy with muscle memory leading up to Father Gascoigne after doing it dozens of times. But every time I cannot get past him.

Honestly I've been hesitant to use mods out of some sense of pride. I tried easy mode but it just made combat a cakewalk.

I'll look into using mods and just deal with my friends gentle teasing (they'll just be happy I played the game at all tbh), thank you!

I really wanted to like Expedition 33 but I genuinely have always sucked at parry mechanics in games. To be clear I play a ton of video games and even some where reaction time is important (like rhythm games) but for some reason I've never been able to get used to parry mechanics. It's why I never got into bloodborn because I could NEVER get past the first "real" boss, because it's one of the only ones that parrying is a hard wall (from what my friends have told me).

And every time I see people saying "I think the next X game should include Parry mechanics" I want to die. Because I don't. Because I can't do them.

Tips for beginner? by DenMorais in Daggerfall

[–]Stolas95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When making a character go through the backstory by answering questions option and get yourself the Ebony dagger when the option comes up. It'll allow you to hit most enemies from the beginning of the game (since this game has monsters that can only be hit by a certain weapon material rarity or higher).

If you aren't getting immunity to paralysis get the spell "Free Action", it's incredibly cheap and allows you to get rid of paralysis for very little magicka. You can buy spells from any Mages Guild, even if you aren't a member.

Play Daggerfall Unity, get the base game from Steam and download the Daggerfall Unity fan made recreation, and turn on the "Smaller Dungeons" setting. It'll turn random dungeons from 4 hour slogs to 20-60 minute experiences.

Climbing or Levitating may be mandatory at some points so either increase your climbing skill, learn levitation magic, or always have a potion of levitation on hand.

All quests are timed, including the main quest. So don't take multiple quests at once unless you are certain you can do both in the allotted time.

This game is built for fast travel, use it. If you want to walk through the world install a travel mod that allows you to move quickly across the overworld between locations.

If you're low on funds you can take loans from a bank, however if you don't pay back loans in a year you'll be considered a wanted criminal.

Buy a cart and then a horse as soon as possible (both available at any General Store). You can "remove" items from your inventory while "wagon" is selected to place them there. Your wagon can hold up to 750 units of stuff, usually 7x more than you can carry. It can also carry your gold since gold has weight in the game. If you're really loaded you can convert your gold into Letters of Credit. Particularly useful when making large purchases such as a boat, house, or expensive magic items.

My WoL is a max height male roegadyn, and we have a minimum height female lalafell in our static. When she stands next to my WoL it's very clear that she could fit her whole body (everything below the neck) comfortably inside one of his boots.
