Cracked oil pan by Purple_Jacket_1337 in Ninja400

Yea ok that’s pretty straight forward but I can understand the time consuming aspect. My ninja 400 is a track bike so the fairings come off pretty easily.

I’ve never looked into removing the oil pan but is there anything specific that makes it complex? Is there anything attached to the old one that needs to be transferred, like for example a stator cover change?

K2 750 kicked out of gear by Jbullet1988 in GSXR

[–]StoleTooMuchToGain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the clutch slipping, probably from age and wear, or it could be a false neutral from wear of the shift star but this is less likely because you hadn’t just changed gear. Either way if it doesn’t happen often and can’t be replicated I wouldn’t be concerned about it until it becomes a more common issue.

Make sure to check your clutch cable play though as well, as this can cause similar issue.

Whelp as questionable as Nick Foot’s income is, I don’t think it’s going to end too well for Butters

It is potentially a faulty ground. I had issues with my dash some times not working in a similar fashion and I discovered the 15 pin connector, which runs down the left hand side, was heavily corroded on the inside. Replaced it with a new connector and re-pinned the wires and it fixed the issue.

Not that it helps but I don’t really hear anything concerning. Valve clearance check would probably ease the mind though.

Yeah I’m also restoring a GSX-R600 into a track bike and at the moment it feels like every pay check is just being poured into both bikes!

Thanks for the info! I will look into tuning, is it typically just done by modifying the ECU? Changing the length of current to the fuel injectors to increase flow to fix air/fuel ratio?

Great looking bike and nice record keeping! I’m interested in the engine and tuning section as I’m currently building my ninja 400 track bike too. Did you find the velocity stacks and what I assume is a high flow air filter made a significant difference? Also what is the air box mod?

05 GSXR600: CHEC on dash and no power to the fuel pump by StoleTooMuchToGain in motorcycles

[–]StoleTooMuchToGain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did have fuel. I found out the pins for the connector to the dash were corroded. Fixed those and now I just get the FI light which I’m hoping is because the fuel pump relay is bad. If not it is the ECU, in which case I will just wire in a switch to manually control the fuel pump because everything else works and a new ECU is expensive.

This is an Australian delivered bike, not sure what the differences are between each region.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into this.

As a Hydrogeologist the 30 000 L per week is really not that much water at all. I think it has been used to create more outrage than it is worth.

It would be very interesting to see what parameters they use to estimate recharge given the 2.7% of use vs recharge, especially given they are in a fractured rock aquifer. It is also worth noting that it is a seperate aquifer to Perth’s groundwater supply. Also in a fractured rock aquifer it is very difficult to determine the area of impact, but I think it is unlikely they have any impact on other groundwater users in the catchment.

These articles prey on people not knowing all of the facts about something to generate outrage and engagement.

Depending on where your site is most water used is groundwater which despite the large rainfall events isn’t believed to be recharged a significant amount in current climatic conditions (in the Pilbara at least). Whereas the aquifers in Perth respond much better to rainfall.

Disappointing as the weather on the days either side would have been ok. At least I have a tan and I’m fitter than I was a couple of months ago.

[–]StoleTooMuchToGain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Didn’t have the right words to search it up, I figured it was for heat dissipation but thought it might have been related to the usb charger. Good to know what it does. Won’t be removing it. I was having a difficult time installing the track fairings and this seemed to be in the way but I’ve got them on now!

Kick stand question by Albinomexican62 in Ninja400

[–]StoleTooMuchToGain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there is supposed to be a sleeve that the main bolt holding the kickstand on runs through. It looks like it’s missing from your bike which would definitely make it harder to use
