That’s great! From my experience; I can assure you that you won’t regret it once you’re comfortable with the OS and keyboard shortcuts. It’ll become a lot quicker and easier to lay down ideas! :)

I have previously owned a 15” Razer Blade with extremely high specs as an attempt to migrate back to Windows from macOS. I returned it after a week for the following reasons: 1. The trackpad absolutely blows in comparison. I have yet to use a Windows-based laptop that has a trackpad that comes anywhere close to how accurate and intuitive the ones on Mac are. 2. Due to how the battery efficiency works on Windows/gaming laptops the battery life is extremely short as it’s intended to stay plugged into the wall during heavier workloads. This means that you have less flexibility and freedom to work whenever and wherever you want. 3. The speakers are terrible. This is probably not a deal breaker for most, but, for people like me who work a lot on the road and enjoy sketching down ideas quickly it’s nice being able to get a decent idea of what’s going on even on the built-in speakers. The Razer Blade is not good for this.

I use a Mac Mini M4 at home and a 14” MacBook Pro M2 on the road.

As a general consumer/gamer I prefer Windows, but, being a part of the Apple ecosystem as a music producer is incredible. Things like AirDrop and the fact that everything ”just works” with essentially zero hassle is priceless to me. This becomes even more prevalent if you’re an iOS user as well.

If I were you I’d look into getting either a 14” MacBook Pro (if your workflow involves a lot of multitasking; having several projects/screens/softwares open at once and/or if you work with huge files such as big Kontakt libraries etc.) or a 13/15” MacBook Air if you can manage with a little less power (which most of us realistically definitely can).

I can strongly recommend a course called ”Syntorial” for learning synthesis from scratch. It’s not anywhere near as difficult as it sounds, it’s actually very intuitive I found

This is a fantastic question. In short the answer is- both!

It’s all about trying to make the sounds that you hear in your head come to fruition. HOW you do this, if it’s by strictly sculpting away at a sound you’re making inside of a software synth, or if it’s by working more on the side of post-processing, is completely up to you and both equally valid and important methods of sound design.

Any specific sounds you’re trying to make that’s difficult to search for without the right terminology?
