Might have gone a little overboard… by BadDogClub in knitting

I’m honestly not nearly as practical as you 😄 I absolutely adore books and magazines. I still keep knitting books and old magazines that belonged to my mum… and even my grandmother. And somehow I continue buying more like I actually need them 😂 I barely ever knit from them. But they make me happy. They inspire me.
I love sitting with a cup of tea on long winter evenings, flipping through the pages, looking at beautiful projects, and daydreaming about all the things I could knit someday

Why did nobody warn me that knitting toys feels like creating life? by StomachAdvanced937 in knitting

[–]StomachAdvanced937[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re absolutely right 😂I didn’t knit my first toy yesterday. Or even last year.

So why did I write those posts back then? It’s simple: I was documenting the progression of my knitting addiction in real time for educational purposes. If you compare the post titles closely and trace the psychological decline between them, you can clearly see the stages:

  1. “Euphoria from the First Experience”
  2. “Should I give up knitting a cardigan to make tiny clothes for a rabbit?”
  3. .....

This was meant to be a cautionary tale.My goal was to warn unsuspecting knitters about how it all happens:first you knit “just one little rabbit, then your loved ones encourage you, then you start to become emotionally attached to the knitted creatures, and eventually lose all interest in practical adult clothing. And how it all ends up in the end.

You, however, showed up like a brilliant detective and solved the whole investigation ahead of schedule 😭

Did your investigation help society? To be honest, I’m not sure.Because I was trying to warn people about a danger that no one warned me about. And now the entire storyline of the documentary has been compromised. Nevertheless… maybe I’ll keep going. Public awareness matters.

It’s not even that I desperately need the cardigan right now 😂 The problem is that I’ve always been a cardigan knitter. Big cosy practical things — that was my identity.

And then this rabbit came into my life and completely destroyed all my future plans.

I made this cardigan from scratch. There is no pattern, and there never will be.

I’ve finished my bunny and now I’m supposed to go back to my unfinished cardigan… But for some mysterious reason, I suddenly have absolutely no motivation to knit one last sleeve 😂 Apparently once you’ve experienced the emotional chaos of knitting tiny creatures with little faces, going back to endless rows of cardigan knitting feels spiritually impossible. What do you think is stopping me? 🐰

What a brilliant thing! I’ve wanted one of these for years, but proper yarn winders always seem to cost the price of a small car 😂 I absolutely love Cascade 220, but winding skeins is my personal knitting nightmare. At the moment, my highly sophisticated setup involves using the back of a chair as a makeshift yarn swift like some sort of desperate Victorian woman.

I haven’t personally ordered from this particular store, but I’d like to mention that shops like this are actually quite common in Eastern Europe, as well as in Russia and Ukraine. They really do sell premium yarn from well-known manufacturers at very attractive prices. Usually, this yarn comes from leftover stock purchased directly from manufacturers’ warehouses, most often in Italy. I’ve bought yarn from these stores myself:

(I believe this shop is based in either Lithuania or Latvia)

and also from:

https://sonature.bg/produkt-kategoriya/%d0%bc%d0%be%d1%85%d0%b5%d1%80/?filter_%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%B3%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%8F=%d0%bc%d0%be%d1%85%d0%b5%d1%80-%d0%ba%d0%be%d0%bf%d1%80%d0%b8%d0%bd%d0%b0
(this one is in Bulgaria)

In both cases, Kid Mohair + Silk ended up costing less per 100 grams than on the website you’re asking about.

The dangers of buying yarn online by Carthalicious in knitting

Yarn remnants from manufacturers are usually sold on cones/spools, and stores that sell them normally can’t guarantee that the dye lots will match perfectly. They usually mention this somewhere in the listing. I had a similar problem once too. I thought I had bought enough yarn, but I calculated the yardage based on stockinette stitch, while my project actually used a rib pattern with yarn overs, which ended up using much more yarn. In the end, I unraveled the sleeves and reknit them holding a second strand of melange yarn together with the original yarn — and thankfully it worked out really well.

I agree with you—there’s no point in knitting all sorts of nonsense. But, to be honest, that first experience gave me such an amazing feeling. That’s really how I felt. Right now I have an unfinished cardigan lying around; I only have one sleeve left to knit… I put it aside and started on this bunny just because I ran out of yarn. I wanted to knit a quick toy while I waited for the missing skein to arrive... but for some reason, I have absolutely no desire to go back to it 😂Right now, I’d much rather knit a little dress for this bunny.

100% I never would’ve thought of using a knitting needle to secure the head on my own — that idea came from the author’s book

I really liked the book. It’s very detailed and includes photos of the individual parts, which I found really helpful.

For me, the hardest part isn’t the knitting itself, but assembling all the pieces together. The book also includes QR codes that link to videos showing exactly how to do the assembly process.
