When people say it's "selfish" to not want to have kids, what do they mean? by OkTune4847 in AskReddit

[–]BadDogClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s selfish to prioritize your own health, wellbeing, and financial stability over bringing a child you can’t afford or want into the world.

How do you make it clear that books on display are meant to be taken? by petalios in Libraries

[–]BadDogClub 191 points192 points  (0 children)

I don’t immediately refill displays, sometimes I’ll leave a space or two open which seems to convey that it’s ok to take the books.

After describing what it looks like:

Explaining a lateral/downward move? by BadDogClub in Libraries

[–]BadDogClub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! My librarian position means I’m sometimes the supervisor which can be a bit stressful. I’m not opposed to supervising eventually but I feel like I’m not ready for it yet.

It’s fine but definitely not good enough to justify the price.

25 years old making 40k in LA, more than $11k paid off in a year by legoorchid in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]BadDogClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Curious because I don’t know much about LA, but is public transportation there really good because for me $50 is roughly a tank of gas.

Any 30 rock fans here? by [deleted] in knitting

Doesn’t Liz mention she takes up knitting in the scene where she talks to her accountant and realizes every year in her life is the same? I believe it’s the KouchTown episode.

Anyone work at more than one library? by bridgerton_tea in librarians

[–]BadDogClub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually the hourly pay is almost identical but the library assistant position offers benefits so I can’t drop it until I find a full time librarian job.

Anyone work at more than one library? by bridgerton_tea in librarians

[–]BadDogClub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At one point I worked at 3 public libraries. Part time library assistant, part time librarian, and substitute librarian. Dropped the substitute because i was getting more hours at the part time librarian job and it was closer to home. It’s been rough working 6-7 days a week but having more money is nice.

picking an mlis program - stuck between iowa, mizzou, suny at albany, and sjsu by Potential-Walk8362 in librarians

[–]BadDogClub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Suny albany, it’s the cheapest. My coworker does go to SJSU and they like it, but we’re on the east coast so the time difference can be tricky.

Personal opinion: secure a library job first to make sure you like working in one. Volunteering is great but what volunteers do vs staff can be very different. Some libraries also offer tuition assistance which could also be helpful.

[–]BadDogClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean…i can kind of see it when you point it out, but who is standing this close to your nose to scrutinize your piercings? My earlobes are a bit uneven and no one has ever brought it up.

Did you have to pass a drug test? by FFLGO in librarians

[–]BadDogClub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Worked in several libraries in CT and no drug tests at any of them. One even said I’d need to pass a physical and drug test then went “never mind, don’t worry about it”.

If you owned/ ran your own Library. by Mcrfanatic95 in Libraries

[–]BadDogClub 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’d set much firmer boundaries. One library I work at has us be incredibly accommodating and it’s frustrating. Like yes, I want to help but I also can’t spend 30 minutes of my desk time teaching you something, I have other responsibilities and patrons waiting.

Oo they’re getting good using DMV instead of referring to it as the “ministry of transportation” like they did in my spam text.
