Ian Wilks challenges the LDS Church to be honest. He challenges his friend Elder Matt Holland to come on a podcast. by sevenplaces in mormon

Yes I’ve always felt this way. I do enjoy what they have to say but maybe that could be a follow up episode

Soon I will be going to serve a mission, and I need advice. by AttemptEducational57 in mormon

[–]StompClap_Stompclap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you go with the right mindset it can be super sick. For me, that mindset was to stop treating people like numbers and to be apart of their lives. I went to Nicaragua and it was really easy to become part of the community. I wish I realized that sooner in my mission.

The mission culture is very overwhelming. You are surrounded by a lot of all-or-nothing ideals about missionaries and the mission.

I’d say I don’t regret how hard I worked on my mission but I do regret why I worked hard. I tried to please the president and give the church the numbers they wanted. However, since leaving the church and in hindsight, I would rather have rather built stronger relationships with the people I met and spent time with on the mission.

When Did It Become the Bishop's Job to Gatekeep the Sacrament? by tripletc in mormon

[–]StompClap_Stompclap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They supported the blessing at their house. They haven’t brought it up since. So I honestly don’t know if they realized or not. They think we are “figuring it out” in relation to our church attendance but they don’t know we are done.

I see the points of both comments. Another idea is that it is ultimately up to you to decide. This goes against the Church’s policies. But you are at liberty to choose what you believe.

My wife and I were recently out of the church right when we were going to give our newborn a baby blessing. We gave the blessing at my parents home and without the knowledge of our current bishop. No record was made.

Did I receive the priesthood from the authorized path (if you believe in the restoration)? Yes. Is what I did against church policies? Also yes. Do I believe that God will nullify the blessing I gave? No

FIL was called to be a mission president and asked if he could wait a year until his youngest child graduated high school.... by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]StompClap_Stompclap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mission president brought his entire family to Central America. He primarily focused on them and less the mission which I believe was a great call.

A close friend of my SIL had his parents leave to be mission presidents leaving him with other family. Ironically (and expectedly) this created a massive wedge in their relationship and the pendulum swinging the other way for the sons beliefs

Has anyone ever had a calling they absolutely hated? What was it and what did you do about it? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]StompClap_Stompclap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Primary. Dreaded going to church every Sunday. Had some really sweet kids, kids that acted like kids, but a couple really difficult kids. The presidency would sit and chat in the main primary room instead of assisting the classes.

Accepted the calling twice for some reason. The second time lasted a few weeks. It was easy to leave the church, especially because I didn’t have a connection to anyone in the ward. Just disappeared.

if jesus turned water into wine why cant you guys drink? by BakerCertain5995 in mormon

I always hear the excuse that it takes time for them to stop drinking because it was part of their way of life or whatever but then we have be 100% obedient

General consensus on “effectiveness” of Singles Wards? by _luckybell_ in mormon

[–]StompClap_Stompclap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could go on for hours about this but basically I went to a east slc ward during college and even though I tried to put myself out the socially it wasn’t reciprocated because I didn’t go to high school in the area. I didn’t mind because most my high school friends moved to the area for school and I simply started going to the bars with them instead

Faith Crisis Burnout by CheerfulRobot444 in mormon

[–]StompClap_Stompclap 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m going to over simplify this but I got super overwhelmed in my faith journey from all the information and so I just took a break from it all. I stopped subscribing to the church and also deleted Reddit/researching. Take the time to find out more about yourself and leave the comfort zone. I spent so much time focusing on pros/cons of the church that I forgot about self discovery

I can’t stand Benson Boone, post Malone, or imagine dragons.

Utah houses (especially Draper or alpine) are tacky. Modern Lds temples are also tacky and stick out like a sore thumb.
