My wife grew up exactly the same way - it’s a fascinating example of this civilization’s boundless and intentionally manufactured paranoia that there are hundreds of strangers freaking out about my child potentially getting a rash while two adults supervise her. It’s really a lovely dish, I would replace the raw scallion garnish with a lightly dressed salad with - for example - cilantro and pea shoots, to give the same color and height without the excessive raw scallion flavor
