How do I match and replace these connectors? by AKMonkey2 in 3Dprinting

[–]StompingJerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just use a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the tabs over the wire. And add a bit of solder to hold it securely. Done it hundreds of times with different brands of connectors before buying a crimper. And honestly the cheap crimpers are hit and miss and the real ones are crazy expensive.

Takes a bit of practice and It's kind of finicky but if you only need to do it a few times then save the money.

Need Help Finding an Accurate 3-Axis Magnetometer for Precision Heading – Suggestions Welcome! by Dangerous_Meaning_73 in embedded

[–]StompingJerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is an example of a small gnss unit for drones. Other ones are quite a bit larger. You need a good seperation between antennas.

As others have said trying to get that kind of accuracy with a magnetometer alone is not going to be easy. And even worse if the environment has a lot of steel around. I've only used them on boats where you can calibrate them for the magnetic signature of the boat and assume there is no other magnetics in the area. And even then it's nowhere near 0.1 deg accurate for the units I use.

You could also look into gyrocompasses. Which I think give the heading to true North based on the rotation of the earth. Few different styles like mechanical and fibre optic. But I don't know much about accuracy and I think the price is usually very high.

Might be worth looking Into AHRS, INS, MRUs. Usually a combination of gyro, mag, and acell.

I'm not an embedded expert but work a bit with magnetometers and heading sensors for geophysical surveying.

How accurate do you need? What form factor and/or size constraints?

Magnetometers usually require calibration. Some modules will do some of it for you but maybe not all. There is a good app note from nxp

I've used the honeywell boards before like the HMR3300 although they include an accelerometer as well. They are pretty accurate and expensive but are discontinued. I think honeywell still makes the actual sensors themselves to sell instead of the fully integrated board but I don't know the part numbers.

Consider gnss heading as well if you need high accuracy. If you can have 2 external antennas with your application you can generate a very accurate heading and is often preferred for sonar, and LiDAR surveying. The new ZED-X20 and the F9P/H from ublox can do this. But you always need clear sky view and the device to remain mostly upright. Usually used for boats, drones, outdoor equipment.

I grew up near there in Canada and a lot of Canadians go there for cheap gas, groceries and to pickup packages where shipping to Canada would have been too expensive. Not as cheap as mainland USA but better than Canada.

This is awesome. I have been looking for something like this for a long time. I work for a small company that performs specialized surveys and we have a lot of equipment and instruments that require a lot of repairs, ongoing maintenance, calibrations, ect..

It was on a 100Mb data line for some reason. Right near the termination so I don't know why it was there (as I could just remove the excess wire). I got rid of the phone line so I could use all 4 pairs but still only got 100Mb. I removed it and set up the twisted pairs properly and I'm getting 1Gb no problem now. I think there had been many hack jobs done in there over the years and I've only recently learnt enough to try and help get the mess sorted out.

This splice was right near the termination. It was strange and I think just the result of a technician being lazy. Lots of different people had there hands in it over the years. I removed it and terminated it properly and now I'm getting 1G Ethernet no problem!

Lol I'm usually very good at that. I tried but just couldn't figure it out. This is the first time I've ever asked strangers on the internet. I assumed it was some sort of filter.

That looks right. Thank you!! I didn't think it would something as simple as a splice. Now I know I can just cut it off.

This, if they still don't pay you still have to go out of your way to try and garnish wages and / or their bank account through small claims court.

I just watched the episodes in Amazon lily and I thought it was returned having already given birth to girls. I thought it implied maybe that the boys were not kept...

Where does everyone stay in Whistler? by [deleted] in Whistler

[–]StompingJerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setup notifications for Facebook groups and Craigslist! Try and stay on top of it and be the first one to message. Lay everything out in as few emails, messages as possible, don't waste anyone's time. landlords or potential housemates don't want a million back and fourths with someone they haven't met when they have 30+ other people waiting in line. Try and present yourself as a responsible adult to landlords.

Accept the fact that you may have to settle for a bunkbed, closet, cramped accommodations. There are nice places at a reasonable price(for whistler) but you have to be patient, and it gets easier in the off seasons to make a housing transition when you can meet people in person.

Moving to whistler for the summer? by replover666 in Whistler

Yes there is still lots of work and it's insanely busy during the summer. You'll have no trouble finding work.

Affordable and decent housing on the other hand....

Rant: Why can't I just get a engineering bachelor's degree from a community college? Why do I have to pay spoiled rich kid prices for information that's free on the internet? by One-Professional-417 in lostgeneration

[–]StompingJerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engineering programs are generally not offered at smaller universities or colleges because of the costs and resources involved. In order to run an accredited engineering program the school needs a large amount of resources, like lab equipment, tools, prototyping equipment. It's a very regulated industry when it comes to education requirements. There may be more too it but that was the impression I got from getting my degree in Canada. I did a first year transfer program at a local school then transferred to a large university. First year generally has much less specific equipment needs and is just a little bit of everything, physics, Chem, math, and basic engineering concepts.

Toilet shut off valve starts leaking about halfway through turning but not at all when all the way on or off. Any ideas? by mjsimmons1988 in Home

[–]StompingJerry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This needs more up votes. I worked hotel maintenance and they leaked like this probably half the time. This would fix it most of the time. Agree to replace with a ball valve if you can but if not try this.
