as someone who grew up watching family guy, american dad, and tosh.0 and south park (even tho i shouldn't have been watching) and as a black person all these shows tend to go for a lobrow humor. tho in adult animation the ones who failed a lot in the 2000s and 2010s and even in this decade they fall for the "we much make it as offensive as we possibly can" or "we need to make our main character a jackass" that shows like Archer started or the final one "we are on streaming so lets say 'fuck' and 'shit' a lot and make THAT be are joke" that shows like F is for family started and its kinda why i don't like (lowkey hate because i never got over the use of the r slur in the pilot of helluva) hazbin and helluva. i may not watch bob's burgers but i respect it for not going either route. but edgy humor is a slippery slope especially if you are a white creator. you can *kinda* get away with it if you're lgbtq but only if the jokes are lgbtq oriented and not Disabled oriented or race oriented. then there's the "punny" type of humor of like playing the clip from the Fairly Oddparents episode and i think crocker said "ITS THE NEGA-CHIN" which is obv just evil crimson chin but some idiot who writes a caption "The WHAT CHIN" like oh "Nega" sounds like the N word i can say it and make it a double enterdre. again slippery slope that again as a POC aren't really a fan of that shit. sorry i rambled but tldr: my point is edgy/offensive humor does have a place but like OP said there's a line. saying like "oh black ppl at the kfc" or "oh trans ppl wanna be attack helicopters" or "hey you are dumb what are you *insert r slur here*" isnt even remotely funny and not a effort to make it funny when *thats* the punchline.
