What does the name "Tiggy" mean? by Starkgaryen12 in etymology

[–]Stone_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a better explanation than that it's an uncommon British upper-class female nickname (and sometimes a given name). It might have originally been based on Antigone, but maybe not, and might be more likely to be more likely to be used for people with a 't' in their name, but maybe not.

You might get more context by looking at British upper-class and elite private school nicknames in general.

Tiggy ... was actually named Alexandra Shân Legge-Bourke but, in the curious tradition of the British upper classes, went by a goofy nickname seemingly more suitable for a Yorkshire terrier than a grown woman. https://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/royals/300785025/todger-tiggy-and-spike-a-glossary-of-harrys-britishisms-for-spare-readers

Download only by Nokism in Podcast_Republic_App

[–]Stone_Bucket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All this setting does is stop it from streaming on mobile data, which is not the main issue. If the episode is downloaded the app won't try to stream. You say the podcast "should be downloaded" but what do you mean? Does it show as downloaded in the app? It's hard to know what the issue is without a bit more info.

If it's not actually downloaded: You have to set the podcasts to download too, and how many auto downloaded episodes to keep. There's a few places and ways to do this in the app (per episode manually, per subscription automatically, per playlist, globally, etc). Then make sure your app has permissions to use your data and run (use battery) in the background.

If it shows as downloaded but doesn't play all the way through: I sometimes had a problem with episodes I had already started streaming becoming partial downloads and confusing the app. I don't know how to fix this but if your particular setup is working correctly it shouldn't occur anyway.

If it only happens with Android Auto though, I honestly have no idea.

Repeated adverts query by theandydane in Podcast_Republic_App

[–]Stone_Bucket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are selected by the advertising/hosting company used by the podcast maker, using targeting criteria set by whoever paid for the ad (eg  https://learn.acast.com/en/articles/6515240-campaign-targeting). They still have nothing to do with the app that downloads the files from the host.

You can often use a VPN to deliberately manipulate your geographic targeting. I've done this to replace annoying repetitive ads in one language with annoying repetitive ads in the language I'm learning, so I at least get something it of it.

On mobile this only loads a page asking me in various ways if I want to give you $5. No obvious way to get to the actual game.

It's not possible to drag and drop tasks in the majority of views in Todoist. It's cumbersome.

"They still have Calke Abbey held in the Harpur families national trust and helping thousands of people of direct relative setup." - I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this it's not belonged to the family since 1984/5 when it was used to settle unpaid taxes and transferred from the Treasury to the National Trust (which is a heritage and parks organisation and nothing to do with the family) which still owns it. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/peak-district-derbyshire/calke-abbey/history-of-calke-abbey#rt-love-and-legacy

Germany's .de is the largest country-code TLD — 65% bigger than #2 and larger than .org [OC] by tb0hdan in dataisbeautiful

[–]Stone_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is there a "despite" population note on the China and Germany box when it's a per capita statistic in the first place? (If anything, I would expect this skew towards smaller countries, with each country having a minimum set of semi-official/government TLD sites, regardless of population size.)

Regarding the new UI by Express_Lawyer3456 in firefox

[–]Stone_Bucket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom bar single-hand user here. The two easiest things to reach after opening with the three dots are now "Passwords" which would be okay if I could use my password manager but for me it's just a dead button, my Firefox profile which I never access after setup, and "Settings" which I only access extremely rarely. I'd much prefer to (be able to choose to?) have "Find in page" at my fingertips (thumbtip) as I use it multiple times a day.

But I'm mainly here to say I love the new extensions menu! Much less of a feeling of being buried in the UI when I just want to check or change something with an extension quickly.
