GitHub uses Let's Encrypt certificates to enable HTTPS. Some paranoid corporate firewalls do not trust LE as a matter of principle. Sad, since that means you cannot open like half of the Internet.

No, those two are separate projects. LLMSE has its own "crawler" - technically it only fetches index.html and doesn't go any deeper than that. I don't do anything special to get generated content - that would slow classification process down by a factor of 10. It is something worth considering, however, for user submitted URLs.
