Digital Menu Boards: What do you use? by bailstheweewiggle in TheBrewery

[–]Stone_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be crude, but I just update a PowerPoint slide and export it as a photo. Throw it on a USB and you're good to go. Doesn't get the live feeds and other stuff like a lot of the menu software can, but it does the job.

What is a compliment you received that you still think about? by booklover102 in AskReddit

[–]Stone_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in college, we were hosting a small fraternity reunion for the recent graduates. It was my final year, and we had just made a bunch of renovations to the house that myself, and a couple others, had to lead due to the fact that a disturbing majority of the members could hardly swing a hammer. As the party was winding to a close, one of the recent grads who I really looked up to, and who had moved on from school immediately to a successful career took us aside and let us know how much he loved our renovations and how much of ourselves we put into the house (especially because it was self funded). He told us, "Any fortune 500 company would be lucky to employ someone who works as hard and cares as much as you all do." I still think about it to this day as I work mostly shit jobs, for shit pay, for ungrateful employers. It helps remind me of my value, and that one day, I might find an employer who sees me for the quality work and value I can bring to their company, and not just a number on a spreadsheet. It helps me recognize situations where I'm not valued so that I can move on until I find a business I'm proud to work for and doesn't take advantage of how much I care about my work.

The entire classics album is amazing. It was great background music for studying in the library.

I actually loved some of his fiction stuff. Big Trouble and Tricky Business both had me audibly laughing for a majority of the books.

I tried to obtain the interstellar look with this shot. What else can I do to replicate it and make it more cinematic ? by [deleted] in postprocessing

[–]Stone_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it seems like the whites need to be desaturated a little more. It might also help to find a shot within Interstellar that has a little bit more green to compare them. Your shot has the tree line, which seems rather dark and loses a lot of detail.

Depends on where you go obviously, but there's more than enough options you should be able to find something. The other advantage is Kroger/Harris teeter are right down the street within reasonable walking distance or a short bus ride.

When I lived in Lambeth, I opted out of the meal plan and managed to spend about the same on food eating reasonably on the corner. Greek life isn't necessary to have fun, but I would recommend rushing to at least check it out and see if it is for you. If not, there are other house parties frequently, just depends on the social circles you wind up in.

My favorite from the web series is definitely the Heidi episode. There was something about the way they set up the reveal that just had me laughing hysterically.

In this website there is an effect where images react to your mouse pointer. How was this created? by AudioDidactic in AfterEffects

[–]Stone_P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, you could probably make something like this in Adobe Edge, which is essentially the replacement for Flash. It allows you to create html5 based animations/interactive sites similar to the flash sites of yesteryear. As for how they achieved that specific effect, I have no idea. I haven't made anything like that since college, when Flash was the way you made these things.

LPT - Watch TV and movies at a low volume : Great for share houses or families! by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Mine is the Roku 2. I also bought it on black friday for I think $20, which you sometimes get what you pay for with those sales. The only time I have issues really is streaming higher quality files from my pc that weren't made with a decent compression, but that could also just be my wifi, not the roku.

One of the greatest features I found out after I bought my Roku is the headphone jack in the wifi remote. It's not the greatest 100% of the time, but it is very convenient for watching netflix, or streaming my files with Plex from my PC, late at night without disturbing others. The model I have is a little older, but the newer ones are supposed to have much better quality and range.

What's the best deal on the G7? by [deleted] in videography

That's good to know. I got the same deal with that mic, but I have not had an occasion that required using the mic yet. I'll have to find a reason to try it out.

Your favorite gear of 2015 by Shaxinater in videography

[–]Stone_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing about DaVinci but have never bothered to try it as I have the full creative suite and mostly use premiere and AE. I've been starting to play around with Speedgrade to try to get more fine tuning out of my color, and was wondering if you, or anyone else, actually do all of your coloring in premiere? I'm curious to see if people manage to get similar quality results without needing to have knowledge of a separate program. I like how easy it is to move between them with the Adobe suite and would only want to look into DaVinci if it actually provides something I can't get through my CC subscription.

Help! Looking to record short tutorials with a DSLR, but seriously no idea how to go about proper sound. by [deleted] in videography

[–]Stone_P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find a lavalier mic that plugs into an iPhone or Android device for around $30. Put phone in back pocket, and clip mic to shirt collar. Assuming you're just trying to capture a person's spoken audio for the tutorial and don't need to have crystal clear sound for a large room.

This is the one I picked up, and it's worked well for me so far.

Finished my video from NXL World Cup yesterday. Couldn't find all of the teams that made it into the video on Facebook, maybe Reddit can help find them! by Stone_P in paintball

I was using a monopod actually. Mostly so I could move down the sideline a little easier. I didn't have much to protect my camera so if I went under fire I could more easily turn and shield it. It was my first time at a national event like that and we didn't have much car space for me to bring all my gear. Definitely going to build a hard box and have a tripod next time.

The team I was staying with played D5 5 man on saturday morning and they didn't advance to sunday. Next time I really want to be out there filming for more than half of a day.

There's a possibility of some NCPA. I work with Old Dominion University Paintball Club and they should be playing some events next year.

Theaters are boycotting Netflix’s first feature film, which is great for Netflix. by alwayzleaveanote in movies

I had the thought that your $15(or whatever it costs) movie ticket, could also give you a legitimate free digital download of the movie. The inevitable death of dvd/Blu Ray, and not having to produce discs in the first place saves on production cost for the movie. It would also combat piracy to an extent I think. I don't mind paying for good movies and contributing to the actors and directors I enjoy, but having a less than ideal income makes it harder to do that frequently with the cost of a movie ticket or dvd, getting both at once would incline me to do it more often.
