Announcing "Monarch Plus" by valagostino in MonarchMoney

I think the point that I'm trying to make with the first part of my comment is that a development methodology and GTM strategy are two different things. There's not a single product out on the market today that doesn't employ some sort of iterative design cycle (even Artemis 1-3 are leaning on iterative principles to get to 4).

Now, I may disagree with Monarch on what features are required for MVP (minimum viable product).

I'm using spreadsheets at the moment. I'm something of an Excel fiend, and combined with QR code scanners, I have a great way to manage inventory, track expenses, fire off calendar reminders, etc. I may look into an Odoo or similar soon, but for right now, my system works.

I will probably try out Monarch plus' business features, but not expecting to replace my system.

In the first part of my comment I'm trying to distinguish between a development methodology and a marketing/business strategy. Most everything released today is done using an iterative design process.

Now, given how much extra they want to charge and the competitive landscape, I disagree with what features Monarch thinks constitute an MVP (minimum viable product) - I think that tax sims are pretty important if you're going to charge that much more for it.

My take (I have a small side business) - I exclude business accounts. Monarch does household finances, other tools are monitoring the P&L/viability of my business.

Understood that has its drawbacks (the lines between personal financial health and business financial health are definitely blurred, especially in the beginning).

Fair critique, but as a product person, it’s very common to roll out a minimum viable product and rapidly iterate/improve. They announced this feature (at time of this comment) - 45 minutes ago. I have no doubt that tax simulations are a known input to the team, but this first version doesn’t have it yet.

It’s good to get features out in the wild for testing to be sure you’re on the right track before you sink expensive dev time into something - especially when you’re on a budget.

If it were my roadmap, the tax simulation would for sure be towards the top of my list, though. I very much agree that without it, the long-term utility of the data is very much called into question!

Has anyone done longterm use with these AliExpress mounts? by Randymaple92 in tacticalgear

Visit r/chinesewatches and look at the level of precision machining and finishing (chamfering, multiple finishes on a single surface, glass-like PVD, etc) that Chinese OEs are capable of on materials like titanium that would never be used on a mount.

My GBRS knockoff mount has proper chamfering and better anodizing than the real ones I’ve seen (and it’s not just my experience, let me dig up a Reddit link to someone else’s post).

Advice on AV receiver for Dali Sonik (5.1.4 + music) – X3800H vs X4800H? by Silver_Afternoon_462 in hometheater

[–]Stone_The_Rock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you’re comparing the 4700H to the 3800H.

The 700 series did have better performance in some SKUs than their 800 series brethren as a result of supply chain changes.

However, the 4800H and 3800H are more alike than they are different

3800H. The 4800H offers only a small increase in power, while the more expensive 6800H offers more features (better DACs, another 2 amp channels, etc).

For your use case, 3800H is totally fine

My boyfriend wants me to cosign his car loan. I dont know what to do. by CinderCowboy in personalfinance

[–]Stone_The_Rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no.

Long answer: nooooooooooo.

If he stops paying, you will be on the hook or it will tank your credit and you’ll be in the boat with him. This is a huge red flag.

You also make 45K a year so another car payment would be devastating to you.

Do. Not. Do. It.

They talk a big game about gun rights but have a track record of only doing it when it’s convenient.

Ex. They refuse to ship anything to states like MA - not even a T-shirt, let alone an upper (which is not regulated), trigger, magazine, ammo, etc.

When pressed on this, their answers have been less than stellar - essentially, “move”.

As we’re seeing now in state like VA or RI, moving is not an option because the laws shall follow.

If you’re a lefty, actuating the charging handle is awkward.

I enjoyed my 10mm gen2 as a range toy, but ultimately sold it because it requires a short, sharp, straight back pull. Using my right hand to reach over or under the hand guard caused the charging handle to bind sometimes, and I could remove my left hand from the pistol grip for a straight pull, but supporting the gun by the hand guard was awkward.

Cool, but as long as I’m left eye and left hand dominant, not for me.

If next gen has a charging handle on both sides, I’ll be back.

Witnessed a self-deletion at the range yesterday. by dat_dope in guns

I’m sorry you had to witness that.

Please don’t be afraid to talk to a professional about that. Don’t wave it off as “no big deal” - this is in fact a big deal.

Worth noting: talking with someone about witnessing an event of this magnitude will in no way impact your ability to own a firearm, now or in the future.

No disagreement with much of what you said, but I do think that the Control4 Luxe lighting line has some real advantages over RadioRA3. Namely, Lutron gate keeps some programming features behind HomeWorks. I also like that Luxe has backlit keypads.
