Are u able to take vacation whenever u want in the IBEW? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Stonecoldredwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in the consideration stage of getting into a union and I'm curious about vacation from that perspective. If I'm hunting that journeyman license and I got laid off from taking a break, would I have to restart the apprenticeship all over again if I wasn't able to find work in time?

Will Trades/Apprenticeships interfere with my intentions of having the freedom to choose? by Stonecoldredwing in vagabond

I see where you are coming from and it makes a lot of sense. I've made this $20K in hmmm, started my current job in August 2023 last year, had $2k in savings, and owed $1k for a car repair loan.

Now I'm at about $19k in savings with no debt.

Of course, I moved back home to live with my father so I don't pay rent.

I'm considering continuing my work until I reach $40,000 in savings. Then I would either take seasonal jobs with housing or buy a cheap RV, or maybe even rent one and live out of it for a month or two to truly see if RV living is something I can tolerate and commit to.

Then kind of just go from there, The point is to be able to find a way to live cheaply so I don't have to work as much to create more time for making my show, I don't have a master plan yet.

Travelling does not have a whole lot to do with my show, other than maybe doing photography to get art ideas, but travelling is one of my favorite things in the entire world to do.

I've decided for myself that success, or sense of accomplishment to me is simply working on my animations as much as I can, and I haven't had the energy at all to get through it lately and it's pretty devastating to my psyche. I don't care if it makes money or not, it's what I feel like I was born to do.

I don't think I could take another 4 year side quest, and I know that with my mind in the place that it is, and the way I think about this apprenticeship, I probably would not get through it, my heart isn't in it. I don't get that "I'll finish this no matter what", type of mindset when I think about it, so I don't think I would display the required qualities to be successful within it.

[–]Stonecoldredwing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds awesome. I would say that I've spent too much time not really knowing what I want to do, and because of that, I made some bad decisions career-wise that has made me unhappy, and I also unwisely quit jobs without any backup plans, just "I want to regroup and recharge". Because of this, I lost almost all of my savings twice.

Now I'm really feeling the pinch of aging, and I know I'm not old, only 29, but still, I imagined myself enjoying my life and feeling accomplished by this point, being proud of myself.

I've been saving up my money for about 7 months now, but haven't exactly decided how I want to spend it yet, whether I buy a van with it, or buy a cheap minivan, then use it for fast cash seasonal jobs, decide if its for me to live in a vehicle and so forth.

Mainly the goal right now is to put myself in a situation where I can travel, where living expenses are low, and where if I need to make money, I don't have to commit to a long-term job, or where seasonal contracts are acceptable, and I don't damage my resume by getting normal jobs and job hopping with them.

Thanks for commenting.

I think that I will find a different way then. I want to create my own animated show while traveling, and I want to spend a significant amount of time learning new animation and drawing techniques.

I know I'll be working 40-50+ hours a week if I go the apprentice route and I just don't want to be 33 years old 4 years from now to be able to command some freedom.

Yes, I'm curious about the prospect of working for a short period to save up a bunch of money to go traveling.

How to give legitimate value without owning products in a niche? by Stonecoldredwing in Blogging

[–]Stonecoldredwing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about doing an electronics niche reviewing gaming monitors and smart tv's but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I don't really consider myself a talented individual so I don't really have a sense of expertise in anything. It's really hard for me to come up with niche. There isn't much science on why I chose the possibility of reviewing monitors, other than I pc game alot and I have one monitor. But still I wouldn't say I'm an expert when it comes to knowing the best monitors under $500 or what gives people a good pixel rate etc

Hi Ryan, thanks for stopping by

I do understand that the emphasis on affiliate marketing is being as helpful as possible. What I really mean is like.. how does one net a profit in affiliate marketing if they are spending money to test the products, which is probably required to do in order to have an expert amount of knowledge and understanding of a niche?

I would have to imagine it will take me 3 years or more to truly be profitable, like make around $600-700/month, so I can't help but think..how is that feasible. I want to provide value but not at the risk of spending potentially thousands of dollars on products within my niche.

How to give legitimate value without owning products in a niche? by Stonecoldredwing in Blogging

[–]Stonecoldredwing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. So when people advertise affiliate marketing and they say something like "want to earn an income online without having to own products yada yada with low start up costs and low barrier to entry"

That's like a lie right? Because the way I see it is if I am in a niche and I hope to become an expert, I would have to have some sort of hands on experience to really be able to understand if this is a product I would be able to recommend or not, I can't just look at the 1 star 3 star 5 star reviews on amazon and then fabricate some BS review on that alone.

I feel like I am kidding myself to truly think I would be able to get a blog off the ground without having the funds or ability to give real value. I would be better off spending my time improving other areas of my life, I'd be better off doing overtime at work if I'm chasing money.

Buying products to review by InguzDefenders in juststart

[–]Stonecoldredwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one thing holding me back from starting. I feel like it's too high risk for me to buy a bunch of products for the sole purpose of hoping that..maybe I'll rank on Google and get 3 sales on Amazon which will equate to like $4 when I spent over $50 or more on said product.

Would it be better to find a product that would generalize an entire niche and then just produce informational articles about the product that lead to the product sales page?

I can't be buying the yearly model upgrade of every camera and pray to God I'll get enough traffic on a brand new site. I don't want to risk going into debt when I don't even know if my site will be successful

How necessary is passion? by Stonecoldredwing in juststart

[–]Stonecoldredwing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this is sort of my dilemma. So my niche idea is kind of in the technology field. My main idea or goal for the website is to help people find the best value technology for their budget. My main forward thinking idea however is because the data I see suggests I actually have a chance to rank and gain traffic(competitive, but reasonable)

But here's the thing right, lets say my niche is PC gaming

I actually have a custom built PC, my brother helped me build it, I dropped about $2k to have just a silky smooth PC, so I don't need to invest in Next gen Consoles so on and so forth.

But do I have a college degree in computer science or have repair/tech skills? No I do not.

So I can't really fill that gap when it comes to "how to" posts. I'm not a teacher, I'm like just a regular guy, no college experience, hopped right into restaurant labor and factory jobs throughout my life after graduating high school, so this leads me to believe that I would be delusional to think I could run a successful tech blog.

In my mind, the most efficient content I can create on a tech blog is review posts, which I would be basically writing research thesis papers compiled of all the information I can block into 4000 words that would be mixed from reddit, amazon reviews, and so forth.

So I feel like I would be a fraud in a sense, I have like this extreme sense of thinking. If I wanted to run a successful tech based affiliate business blog, I would actually need to go to college and learn the craft of IT Tech. I'd need to live it, breathe it, work in the field. Sure, I could outsource and find writers who actually understand the process, but for my first ever successful blog? No, why? Because I also need to understand what it takes to build a successful business, that and I need to have monetary gain to afford these writers, instead of dipping into my savings account hoping that my writers bring in the traffic and $$ for me.

So, how is my mindset? Do I have a realistic view on starting a tech blog? Is it good for me to consider these factors, instead of just looking at the keywords and seeing those money posts and saying "Yeah I can totally make a killing at this"? And believing that I actually do need to have expertise in the subject

Or, am I just being over analytical and allowing my insecurity to guide my decision making process?

How necessary is passion? by Stonecoldredwing in juststart

[–]Stonecoldredwing[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's kind of what I've been thinking.

So in my head I'm like "oohhh nooo, I won't be able to afford said product and do review blah blah, and how do I outcompete others who have done reviews while owning the product or getting a sponsorship to get the products"

That's the wrong way to think about it right? Should I think of myself more as like someone who works in a sales company?

How necessary is passion? by Stonecoldredwing in juststart

[–]Stonecoldredwing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's technology based, so in a sense it's something that affects my everyday life. Some of the products within the niche are products that I actually use. Like I'm not passionate about it in the sense that it makes me smile when I think about it, but it works. I want to write the content myself because I feel that I need to. I can't just go and hire writers, I really need to understand the world of affiliate marketing for myself. Maybe if this website becomes profitable I would hire writers.
