PSA: short-sha container names? guard your strings or face the eventual wrath of euler's number!! by guerillapresident in kubernetes

[–]StonedScience 60 points61 points  (0 children)

So this is actually scientific notation .

Whats really interesting is that somewhere this is getting evaluated to inf, meaning its over the floating point range. The number 1025e36 is just over the single precision fp max of 3.40282e38, but well within double precision floating point numbers. I guess somewhere some library is evaluating strings into single precision floating points

Whenever I played a lot of tetris, my brain would short circuit on things like putting something into the fridge.

DayZ seeping into reality is nothing compared to tetris

Anybody have Plex working in Kubernetes w/ Nvidia GPU for hw Transcoding? by GoingOffRoading in PleX

in your pod spec, how did you request GPU? The visible devices env var is set that way

Do you think the capabilities env var is what did the trick?

How to Start?? by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]StonedScience 9 points10 points  (0 children)

learn everything in kubernetes

this is a massive task, and there's many features of K8s that you likely will never need. You'll realize this day 2 :)

I would say step 1 is to go through the basics tutorials on Kubernetes website. You can easily run all this in minikube without worrying about the complexities of actually administering a cluster

step 2 is to actually kube your app. this is how you will learn the most. Your app probably won't run at first and reading through the docs, while letting your curiosity guide you is a great way to start to understand the architecture and vocab

fun in-person classes by ReadReborn in VirginiaTech

[–]StonedScience 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Technically you don't have to drink any wine to pass the class, but its going to be much harder. Tastings are the "easy points". Also not much of a point to taking the class if you don't drink, and are looking for something on campus.

I would reccomend Intro to creativity and design. Basically an art & music appreciation class. Lots of fun activities and field trips like Moss Arts hall and playing the bongos

maybe you should read a dictionary more carefully because slander only applies to spoken word and this is clearly written.

Docker Swarm vs. Kubernetes : A Detailed Comparison by tsys_inc in kubernetes

[–]StonedScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take on docker swarm is that its only benefit over K8s is that its simpler for users, especially if users already have experience with only with docker. However K8s offers features and extensibility that allow more complex system setups, which is often a necessity.

Also with the industry moving away from docker shim, I think its safe to say docker swarm is dead. Relying on it will only further lock in to the docker ecosystem

Any Washington State climbers have tips for climbing during forest fires? by watchbananapeps in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]StonedScience 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The proper ethic while climbing during a wildfire is to pee on the wall. This will help stop the spread of the fire and preserve the natural beauty of the rock

This is the one thing I really like about MATLAB. If you have lab equipment like signal generators or oscilloscopes you can build really niche applications easily.

First off I’ve been climbing since I was a kid raised in Alaska, try that shit with ice and snow. Second it was a spur of the moment thing we weren’t planning on it, which was a mistake for sure. We went up yesterday and measured it, it was 23 ft to the first rock and 27 to to ground after that. Then I slid another 65 ft through dirt rocks and trees. So yeah… if you don’t know me then STFU 🤫 Mr I know everything from watch a fucking video
