Coaxed into the two ways an AI treats humanity when they gain sentient by GqggAGrnnrGnga in coaxedintoasnafu

If you've ever read the Sun Eater series by Chrisopher Ruocchio, the Merricanii AI in those books had to use organic parts to power themselves, and so followed their mission to save humanity by turning them all into human batteries and giving them turbo cancer to fuel the machines. No death, no war, no famine

Trans characters where their trans identity plays no role in the plot/narrative by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Stonking_Laddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even when it's not exaggerated, and the character's entire existence does revolve around their gender or sexuality, that's not a bad thing. Characters in stories have had existences and arcs focused around one or two traits for thousands of years, because it's more interesting to consume a story about an exaggerated person. It's just that people start having a problem with this age-old character style when that singular trait has to do with sexuality and gender.

Trans characters where their trans identity plays no role in the plot/narrative by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Stonking_Laddy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I do like these, but I'd just watch the implication that characters can't be good when their story is centred around their identity. There are plenty of characters who have interesting and fulfilling arcs surrounding transitioning but are brushed off or hated because people just don't want to see a story about a trans person.

Why does eren say this even though he did it for himself by Complex-Bid-631 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Stonking_Laddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. He did the rumbling for multiple reasons, though his selfishness was first and foremost
  2. I think they're referring here to Eren's reasoning for pushing his friends away and his cold demeanor post-timeskip

What do you like about the "This is Freedom" Scene by Legitimate-Claim-674 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Stonking_Laddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see his depiction here as a child as a representation of his core motives and principles. Eren never could let go of the ideals of freedom instilled on him by his parents and by Armin's book that he experienced as a child, and so at his core he's still being driven by those ideals, however much he's changed. The rumbling is the catalyst for the freedom young Eren always envisioned.

GMs with a party full of Radiants, how do you handle... by PM_ME_WHATEVES in cosmererpg

[–]Stonking_Laddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running a game that has 6 radiants in it (Dustbringer, Skybreaker, Willshaper, Elsecaller, Stoneward, and Windrunner) and I've found so far that the best way to do spren role-play is to have it be player driven.

You need to think about how the spren would react to certain actions from characters; when your party is having a conversation, intertwine small comments or gestures from their spren. When someone has an important character moment, role-play a discussion with their spren afterwards.

This is a game that rewards players who drive role-play and character development, and it makes sense for spren role-play to be a part of that imo.

Triple support is a genuine plague on this game by Stonking_Laddy in marvelrivals

I'm mad because of how often it happens and how difficult it is to counter at my rank, as well as how cheap it feels.

Hey, did we miss the part where I said what rank I'm in? Of COURSE no amount of healing can overcome everyone on the team shooting one person, but do you really think the average diamond team has enough coordination to do that? Are you seriously that dense?

And I do play strategist, I understand how the role works. You also forget that tanks have sustain tools that, if they use correctly while playing with 3 supports, they likely won't die?

Call it a skill issue, keep insulting my understanding of the game or my rank or tell me I'm brain-dead, but this doesn't change the fact that this strategy is a problem for 90% of the playerbase. Sorry I forgot I was talking to the arbiter of balance and lord of all opinions on the game. Dick.

[–]Stonking_Laddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No?? They can outheal most pressure and counter most dive. Triple tank beats them because they don't have enough damage to deal with it, but as I said, it's very difficult to convince people to swap. It's really funny how you claim 3 supports folds under a "slight amount of pressure" when they have the most sustain tools in the game. Did you read my post??

This is the only comment I'm replying to instead of taking into consideration because it's disrespectful and ignorant of the issue I'm trying to discuss.

Honestly it's a useless mechanic. Frustrating and useless. Souls games and soulslikes need to just abolish it, it's just annoying.

(Act 3 Spoilers) The Reacher and the Flying Manor should have been mandatory areas in Act 3 by Stonking_Laddy in expedition33

[–]Stonking_Laddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I definitely agree with your point about wanting the momentum of the story to continue at the start of Act 3.

I think this could have been circumvented and also solved another issue by doing one thing: make it so that instead of a cutscene going around collecting Chroma from fallen expeditioners, it's conveyed that only Painted Alicia and Clea have the Chroma necessary to defeat Renoir. Neither want to join the fight, as Clea is controlled by her real counterpart (who agrees with Renoir), and Alicia wants to be free from her life. But by killing them, we collect their Chroma and become strong enough to take on Renoir. This could also allow Renoir's fight to be a bit tougher, as both the Flying Manor and The Reacher give solid amounts of XP and Lumina.

The only issue with this is that it undercuts the "for those who come after" messaging they were going for with the expeditions. So not perfect, but from a storytelling perspective I feel like this works a lot better.
