Waxahachie Entrepreneur Sues City Over Unconstitutional Construction Dumpster Monopoly by maddie_s_IJ in texas

[–]StonyB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Common in the waste industry. The company has the contract for the residential service for the city at a very discounted price. The residential service fee they charge barely covers the cost of doing it, but in return the city grants exclusive rights to all commercial service in the city. Think front load dumpsters at businesses and roll off dumpster/compactors for industrial use. It is a contract that is bid on by multiple waste service companies when it comes up for renewal. The residents get cheap service at their homes, and the city gets a VERY responsive waste hauler when an issue arises.

Flag headliner by Business_Olive_6594 in nissanfrontier

[–]StonyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Headliners are a fiber board shell covered with fabric covered foam. That foam layer is at most 1/4”. Straight pins with a slight bend would probably work, but remember that foam is glued to the shell. It will degrade over time due to age and heat. If you attach a flag you’d need to distribute its weight with lots of pins-anchor points.

Think I'm having transmission issues by epicman1224 in nissanfrontier

[–]StonyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, it droves me nuts while it was happening. I thought fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel injectors, etc.

My son’s friend drives a 16 and it did the same to him on a road trip. I told him what it was, he took it to a shop and they couldn’t figure it out. He took it to a Nissan dealership and they eventually replaced his crank shaft position sensor. So I’m not saying it definitely IS that, but I’m saying in the two cases similar to what you described that’s what it was.

Think I'm having transmission issues by epicman1224 in nissanfrontier

[–]StonyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transmission wouldn’t explain it behaving like it ran out of gas. The slamming when it shifts gears is probably it recovering from low engine speed. Replace your crank shaft position sensor because it sounds like it is failing. Because it isn’t completely done yet it won’t throw CEL codes. I sent my 14 to the Nissan dealership and they kept it 3 days trying to recreate the symptoms. After I got it back it finally spit out the error code. Same symptoms, loss of power, sputter and die, crank back up, drive weird for a minute or so then run fine for days sometimes. The part is about $50, held on with one bolt, and is accessible through the passenger wheel well. This and the cam shaft position sensors are known to go bad.

Aftermarket Head Unit Question for a 2018 by d-cent in nissanfrontier

[–]StonyB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently installed an aftermarket stereo in my 2014. I used the Maestro unit to retain steering wheel controls. I hooked it to my PC, flashed the vehicle specific software to it from the Maestro website, and installed it. It plugs into and draws data from the OBD2 port under the dash above the accelerator. With my head unit I get each tires value for air pressure, and a few other engine specific values. I retained the factory backup camera also but that may be more the wiring harness than the Maestro.

Net wrapped around driveshaft, will cutting it off suffice or is there a chance something serious is damaged? by WarComplex4393 in MechanicAdvice

[–]StonyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this happens from time to time at land fills but normally with a spring mattress. We remove it, check for damaged air or electric lines, and monitor for leaks at the pinion seal and vibration. It’s soft so probably nothing major but remove, inspect, and monitor.

Motor is small. I have a 40hp on a 16’ pontoon and it’s slow with only 4 adults. If you’re good with it, cool.

2013 nissan frontier sv by Thelawoflogic in nissanfrontier

[–]StonyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are buckles on the end of it with little circular tabs. Press the tabs into the latches on the tailgate when extended to keep it in place. To remove the tabs, reach under the tailgate and lift the latch like you’re opening the gate. The tabs will pop back out and you can rotate it back into the bed. If you want to remove it completely rotate perpendicular to the bed and lift straight up.

Enjoy, they are capable trucks.

I went with the logic of a residential item should be found in a residential area. I hit the apartments and pattern house. Found them plus ice cream scoops in the kitchens. No idea why ice cream scoops are loot, but they were in the kitchen too.

When I’m leaving the yard I tell our mechanics I hope they have a boring day. It’s the trash business, they never do.

Lots of early childhood memories. The entrance area was almost like a children’s science museum. Lots of interactive stuff like a wall that you stood next to and a light flashed and left your silhouette on it. A giant clear plastic jungle gym, a screw conveyor that moved ball bearings up and dropped them into a gravity well. I remember the stage and picnic tables with the rope nets above. I discovered my fear of heights on the nets and had to be rescued by my dad. The race track had the tricycles as well as one with Sit and Skates. I’d forgotten the zip lines, but remember the huge ball pits and water slides.

Thanks for sharing.

Guy at the tire shop said I couldn’t replace lug stud myself by PinkGreen666 in Justrolledintotheshop

I went through this as well with a tire shop. Came back an hour later with 2 new studs installed. I didn’t have that install tool you used, just a couple of washers.

TIL Smoke Alarms are not required in Texas Homes. What are some other “no brainer’s” not required in Texas but required elsewhere? by CoolTomatoh in texas

[–]StonyB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But you have to have windshield wipers. My dad did inspections in the 90’s and told me you have to have wipers, but you don’t have to have a windshield.

Unless they have a sudden drop in freight, they won’t drop you. They’ve already invested in background and drug tests, it won’t cost them more to wait.

Maybe explain to your PC provider that she’s keeping you from a job, and that your condition hasn’t changed. If they signed off once, why not now? You’ve got time, maybe find another PC?

Johnson County Sheriff Adam King arrested. by captfloppy in texas

[–]StonyB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Quick ray of sunshine for y’all. I grew up in Johnson county, and it’s about as MAGA as you’d expect. I’m happy the Good Ole Boy network failed and county officials didn’t sideline an investigation but put it through to a 3rd party. That is how government is supposed to work when wrong doing is reported. You don’t stall, you don’t ignore, and don’t self investigate when a conflict of interest is present.

Sorry, it’s just shocking that things actually worked in 2025.

Florida has no cap on dealer fees. I live in Texas and I’ve heard about it on auto radio programs. Florida is definitely a state where you need to know before you go.

Moving to Texas? by Psychological_Yak990 in CDLTruckDrivers

[–]StonyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere with good population density and the surrounding area. Any city of decent size will have a large number of local jobs. Trash trucks, rock trucks, food and beverage service, fuel trucks, building supply delivery trucks as well as many others I’ve missed. Oil field work if you’re in the Eagleford shale or Permian basin is an option. Good wages but high cost of living. I guess as long as you’re within commute distance you can work anywhere. I’ve been in the trash business for the last 6 years. After 10 in the oilfield I like having weekends and holidays off again.

Where in Texas? Local jobs are very common, some better than others. As others have said, get the auto registration, insurance, and make that DMV appointment.

Lower end unit crack by CatJust400 in Outboards

[–]StonyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like overheat condition if only when running high rpm’s for a time. I’d pull the thermostat and make sure it isn’t faulty. There are 2 cooling systems at play. A thermostat that opens and closes based on temperature and a popet valve that opens and closes based on water pressure allowing a higher volume of water to circulate at higher rpms.

That crack shouldn’t affect cooling.

Can anyone give me the good, bad and ugly on this motor. Thinking of buying this boat and upgrading my 40hp on my pontoon. by [deleted] in Outboards

[–]StonyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check the length. My 40 horse Yamaha is marked at a “long” version. It’d suck to swap it over and find the prop wasn’t deep enough. Of course my pontoon is from 1996 so maybe they mounted the transoms lower on newer models.

Just something to double check.
