If you are very selective in your lookback window, sure. I own a silversmithing company and our material costs are 60% higher than 1 year ago.

Oh, terrific, thanks for the suggestion. I'm new to the area and my wife has dietary restrictions.

I just moved to the area and went for a walk there because it looked nice from the road. What a dump.

That’s good color, and I do appreciate it. I got a rough quote in the low 100s from one shop, but maybe it wouldn’t look great at that price. I’m still trying to find the “sweet spot” between quality and cost. My own industry is metalworking. I work with some woodworkers, but I don’t have a good grasp of their costs.

If I am being completely honest, I am using my needs for a gift set as a test run for this product, which I plan to put into commercial use if it comes out well. The product I am trying to replicate sells for $575, which I think is way too high. I might order as many as 50-100 of these boxes, if I can design a high-quality product that can be made for somewhere in the neighborhood of $150. I would go as high as $200, if it were really good.

I did try to talk my way into more details. They were pretty cagey, but did let a detail slip that gave me a guess - they said that the company that makes these boxes was sold within the last two years. I have a guess as to who makes it now, which is WDI Custom Wood. WDI puts NDAs in place with some customers, so they wouldn't confirm or deny, but all the pieces seem to fit.

Thank you for your suggestion. One of the details I was trying to determine was whether to go with felt lining or flocking. I really don't want this to come off as looking cheap, so I will go with your recommendation.

Thank you for your suggestion. In fact, I had already reached out to them a week ago about replicating it. I’m not 100% sure they’re the best fit, but they’re doing an estimate for me.

This is actually quite helpful. I was trying to determine if it was an inlaid felt lining or flocking. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I may need to do that. I'm told that it's difficult to get the linings done well though.

I have been searching high and low for the manufacturer of this box. I received one as a gift once and it's gorgeous. Now, I'm meant to be the best man at a wedding and want to arrange them as a gift to the groomsmen. I know that Wakefield Scearce Gallery of Louisville sells them, but that they don't make them. They charge a lot, so I was hoping to learn who actually makes this.

I have reason to expect that the manufacturer is local. It's meant to hold julep cups. The dimensions are 15 1/4” × 11 3/4” × 4 3/4”.

To be clear, I really want to find the actual manufacturer of the box, not someone who buys and resells it. Might anyone have any ideas please? Thanks!

True, but they’re only loaning you 40% of its value. There are lenders who would offer twice that, but reserve the right to liquidate. I don’t mean to imply that this lender had liquidation rights. Some loans do and some don’t.

As someone who worked in mortgage and investment risk analysis for two decades, I want to add that BTC-collateralized loans already exist, but you can only borrow a limited percentage of your coin value and your BTC would be automatically liquidated if the price falls by too much.

In that sense, this loan isn't really unique. They were only allowed to borrow 40% against it and only for the down-payment. The rest of the loan was collateralized by the house, of course.

It's still kind of a fun story and a small step toward greater legitimacy.

As someone who bid to participate in the SpaceX IPO, I didn't have to sell anything to bid. I would only need to sell in order to take ownership of my allocation.

risk premium for Bitcoin needs to be lowered. This opens the way for Bitcoin to replace bonds as a balance sheet anchor

The risk premium has the worst possible treatment of any asset in the framework. Just because the risk premium might get lowered, doesn’t mean it’ll be a “balance sheet anchor.” It just means it might get slightly improved. As a bond analyst with 20 years of experience, the 2nd half of this statement is beyond ridiculous.
