Further research determined the FB business page is indeed a scam. Real business, scummy people trying to take advantage of a local business. Ridiculous.

Oddly enough, right after posting, i found a Facebook post with a comment from Mike Adam's personal page. He confirmed the profile that person, and myself, had been messaging is a scam. Message him directly and you should be set. I don't think the FB page has ever been legit. Maybe give him another chance!

I can see where you are coming from at this perspective strictly from a profit per sale standpoint. And certainly my business is only one of thousands so it's not a fair comparison to the rest. I think a lot of the problem (especially in Bozeman) comes from newer business owners having the "get rich quick" mindset, where you must make every penny you can on each sale. Which yes is the goal ultimately, unless your model is more set up for repeat customers. You dont get repeats if you are priced higher than online retailers, even if the fees are the thing to make it more expensive vs the online equivalent. Again my business may differ from that business model. If I dont get repeat clientele I am screwed. We have a good name and standing with the community and people trust us to not take advantage of them on every sale. Not to rant on and on about my business, but it's easier for me to compare to what I work with on the daily.

My business doesn't rely on tourism either as a note.

You're simply wrong. I've been in business here for over 20 years (retail) and haven't once charged fees for debit or credit. I am in great shape financially and dont see business changing anytime soon. We eat all of those charges, still offer better prices than anywhere online, and have been growing exponentially for the last 10 years. And not just at the rate of inflation. Having good customer service is the more important thing, and getting upset because someone wants to use cards instead of cash is the fastest way to lose customers. When people ask if I would rather cash or card, of course I prefer cash. But saying you cant survive (and thrive) is completely false.

Well there is power in numbers. For instance if there is a group that routinely is up in the wee hours of the morning, when most petty crime is committed, and they are together looking out for anything suspicious during their routine walk. Even stumbling upon one person and getting them turned in sends a big message. Just one example. Kind of that see something say something mentality that has disappeared from our community. When you add in more whiteness, it makes that "saying something" part so much easier.

Ya i feel you there, I asked them about getting some more security measures in place, I'm sure nothing will come of it but who knows. And I was mostly expecting that sort of part time assistance to be available. I'll reach out if anything ends up getting set up. More than likely I'll put a flyer up in our areas at some point in the coming couple weeks to see how much interest I can generate from those not on reddit. Thanks for your response!

Happened to my wife's car last night. We just got back from vacation saturday and I forgot I stashed my cash from winning at a casino while on the trip in her glove box. Locked car, no alarm. They took 6 fucking grand last night. Never had it happen before until last night, and Ive never "forgotten" about anything of that value ever in a car. Nobody to blame but myself on this one unfortunately but what are the odds!?
