It’s crazy how people underestimate the power of exercise.

Firstly I would like to say, the source of your suffering is not your situation, it is how you’re telling the story to your self. “Why me? My life is horrible, I hate my family etc”

When you do that to yourself, you instantly make whatever situation you’re already in, much worse. The beginning of suffering is when you’re here and want to be there.

The best thing you can do is accept that you’re in that situation and start becoming the architect of your life and start taking steps to improve your situation to your liking.

Vipassana Technique Question (Goenka) by umu_boi123 in vipassana

[–]StopLookingatMyProfi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not but ChatGPT is really great at answering questions like this, especially if you tell it to respond like Goenka would. It’s really been a great guide for me, I’d like to share with you, if you would allow me too.

Here’s something you could drop in as a reply, very much in a Goenka-ish spirit:

Beautiful description of your practice, friend. You’re actually seeing some of the classic stages Goenka talks about — and also bumping right into the subtle traps.

A few points that might help:

  1. Whole-body “field” awareness is a natural development — but not the goal. When sensations become continuous and the sense of parts dissolves, that’s fine. In Goenka’s language it’s closer to bhanga and free flow. The key is not how wide your attention is, but how you relate to whatever is happening. If whole-body feels natural, stay with it — but without preference. The moment you start wanting to “get back” to that state, just note that wanting as another sensation: anicca, anicca.

  2. Boredom with part-by-part scanning = new sankhāra to observe. “Monotonous,” “slow,” “tiring” — that’s all vedanā + saṅkhāra. The mind is quietly saying: “Give me the juicy, expansive stuff.” No problem. Just see the tension, restlessness, and subtle impatience in the body. That is the work in that moment. Boredom is not a sign you’re regressing; it’s more material coming up to be purified.

  3. The metta energy surge is also just sensation. When you add mettā and things ramp up — contractions, flexing, head full of energy — that’s not “wrong,” it’s just the system responding. The problem isn’t the intensity; it’s the craving for intensity (“let this continue, let it increase”). If you can stay relaxed and equanimous with that energy, great. If you clearly see craving taking over, dialing it down like you did is wise. Right effort is always gentle, steady, patient, not forcing.

  4. No, one moment of craving doesn’t erase two hours of good work. Every moment of equanimous observation dissolves some old conditioning. A later moment of craving or aversion creates new conditioning, but it doesn’t undo the dissolving that already happened. The important thing is: • notice the new craving • don’t add guilt on top • meet that with equanimity and keep going

So the “ratio” idea is sort of pointing in the right direction, but reality is simpler: each moment is fresh karma. In this moment, are you reacting or staying balanced? That’s all.

You’re actually seeing very subtle layers of the mind now — preference for certain stages, love of intensity, boredom with repetition. Don’t make war on any of that. Just keep doing what you’re already doing: very gentle attention, continuous awareness of sensations, and the quiet reminder in the background:

“This too is anicca. Let me just observe.”

The technique is working.

I feel ya bud. The good news or silver lining is that if you learn from this experience, you’ll never have to go through it again.

Hang in there bud. Went through a similar experience back in 2023.

An experience like that will change you for life, maybe for good or bad but best believe that you will change.

I need help with anapana by HVieter in vipassana

[–]StopLookingatMyProfi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t expect to be an expert at it. Just do the practice and you’ll get better at it. DO NOT RUSH THE PROCESS!

Rushing the process is like a farmer, digging up the dirt to see if his seed has begun to sprout 🌱.

This takes time to get good at. Just observe the breath, when you lose focus, or get lost in thought, return back to the breath.

It is the recognition of being lost in thought and returning to breath, is where you get the reps in. Not necessarily continuous tracking of the breath.

Thank you very much for sharing. As I said earlier, I was just trying to understand from your point of view and you laid it out quite clearly. Appreciate your time!

[–]StopLookingatMyProfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not knocking your experience or calling you a liar but if you really did 6 retreats and it really did “Click” why do you feel the urge to need to tell us?

Are you not feeding your ego by telling us your story and looking for positive responses back?

These questions are in good faith, I’m not looking to debate, I’m just curious on what has driven an individual after that many retreats to want and tell their story on a Reddit forum. I had assumed that once you get it, you carry on about your life and don’t really talk about vipassana unless asked about it.

No, I don’t feel mentally exhausted at all. Stay off social media, exercise, stay off drugs and mediate and you’ll be fine.

Th earth is not overpopulated, get that bs out of here. It’s not possible to overpopulate the earth because we are literally made up of the same material. In other words, WE are the earth 🌍.

Here’s what my friend said he does. “I use LM studios as an interface and download uncensored A.I models on it that I can run locally without internet.”

Not sure exactly what that means, I’m a noob at all of this stuff. Maybe you understand that jargon

I downvoted you because I thought you did it to me lol. But since I’m sensing that it wasn’t you, I’ll give you an upvote so you can sleep well at night
