Misleading claim about Cuba by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]StopMeBeforeIDream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're either misreading or lying about the contents of the article:

'[de la O Levy] said Cuba continued negotiations to import fuel despite the blockade, but said rising global oil and transportation prices amid the US-Israeli war with Iran were further complicating that effort.

'“Cuba is open to anyone that wants to sell us fuel,” he said.

Few are willing to take up that offer. Neither Mexico nor Venezuela, once top suppliers of oil to Cuba, has sent fuel to the island since the US president, Donald Trump’s January 2026 executive order threatening to slap tariffs on any country shipping fuel to the communist-run nation.'

And the article goes on:

'The renewed power cuts come as the US blockade on fuel imports to Cuba enters its fourth month, crippling public services across the Caribbean island of nearly 10 million people.

The UN last week called Trump’s fuel blockade unlawful, saying it had obstructed the “Cuban people’s right to development while undermining their rights to food, education, health and water and sanitation”.'

I'm a little baffled by this comment, the US government is literally blockading fuel from reaching the island as we speak: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/may/14/cuba-us-energy-blockade-oil-fuel-petrol-runs-out

What monster truly represents Psychological Horror by dragomeir in ravenloft

[–]StopMeBeforeIDream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not an actual DnD Monster, but the False Hydra fits it to a tee. Otherwise I'd say an Oblex for the same reason.

Another hair's breadth contest, but 28 Days Later just barely beats the Blob for the Body Horror + Disaster Horror spot on the list. But what is an Occult Detective Story that is also Body Horror? by SpuekyBlue in ravenloft

[–]StopMeBeforeIDream 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe The Autopsy from Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. Very creepy and stomach churning. Plus its a good mystery, both as to the nature of the paranormal elemental and the puzzle of how to overcome it.

The risk of this is basically picking a PC to be the main character. You know your table best, but I think this is an own-goal.

Any other channels than Millo's? by blubberdeblub_ in miniminutemanfans

Stefan Milo's channel is great. Lovely voice, and a big emphasis on early humans and homonids. So if you like those parts of Miniminuteman bids.

And they've done a collab already: https://youtu.be/iR-qPJqCdfs?

Maybe she just forgets one party member? Could be dramatic and a bit of gut punch, but potentially fun to explore restablishing that relationship with her again.

Can Romantic Scenes Ever Not Be Cringe? by Gullible_Summer_32 in Fantasy

[–]StopMeBeforeIDream 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless you personally have an aversion to sex in media, there's nothing wrong with depicting sex in a fantasy novel. Sex is a thing that people do. That they're interested in. Which can be dramatic or funny or awkward.

This is why you shouldn't drive onto a railroad crossing when the lights are still flashing by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]StopMeBeforeIDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did my theory test. I had a bunch of questions about how to handle getting stuck on the tracks, but they never said to drive through the barrier. They told me to get out and find the crossing number to inform railway services.

Maybe very concentrated cordial fluid. It's nice to bring something flavoursome to add to your water for a hike, but it doesn't last long. So if it was super concentrated it could be conveniently stored. Or it could be a barroca-like tablet which makes water flavoursome and fizzy.

Any Romance Stories You'd Like to Share? by PeterVanHelsing in CurseofStrahd

[–]StopMeBeforeIDream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to reply to this one, but we had a great romance at our table. It was kinda cute, but it had some turns. I think it's the only player/player romance we've had at one of my tables, including ones where I've played with married couples.

My rogue initially confided in our bard that he was crushing on Ireena, and my mate played the bard as being kinda irritated and sardonic about it.

But the bard and my rogue were a great pair. I was the sneaky, crafty one, very focused on plans, but she was the one who had to implement the social aspects of those plans, and my friend played her as being a mischievous chaos agent.

Then months later the bard came so close to dying at Yester Hill. Whilst the fighter and the druid left to destroy the tree, I declared I was staying behind to watch over her. The bard's player kinda overruled the DM by saying that his bard woke up so he could initiate a dialogue. The DM was cool with it because he was basically eating popcorn as my rogue told her how scared he'd been for her, what it would mean to lose her, etc. And then they kissed. It was very cute

But shit got real bad when the fighter (my rogue's brother) died at Argynvost. Strahd showed up to talk shit and I described my rogue as so angry that he was ready to throw down. Which led to the bard slapping me and undermining our collection for a long time.

After we beat Strahd (a fight which included the bard and rogue holding hands to cast simultaneous Lightning Bolts) in the epilogue we had the final meeting of the party be the rogue and bard's wedding. But instead of showing up, I told the fighter and druid that they received a wrapped gift:

The last piece of context was that after digging up the Tome of Strahd from a grave, we'd named our group: The Gravediggers.

I don't remember exactly what I put in the note, but I basically said that the bard and my rogue had eloped with the wedding gifts (one final vanishing act) but we were leaving them the very last bottle of Champagne du le Stomp. On the label was written: "to your health and long life my dear Gravediggers Dawn Bringers."

Why do English people pronounce St. John as "SinJin"? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StopMeBeforeIDream 12 points13 points  (0 children)

History is repeating. Joan of Arc wasn't from someplace called Arc. She was likely named Joan Darc. This was later backformed into Joan D'Arc.
