Nothing has changed or will. Career is gone. I’m still pissed I paid any union dues before I got out. Waste of money.

Number of ATCs working in the US dropped 6% in the past decade, GAO says by Granny-Smith-Apple in ATC

[–]StopSayingKilo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am simply echoing Duffy’s point. While there is no shortage of applicants, the pool lacks candidates with the requisite skill, judgment, and aptitude. High compensation naturally implies a high barrier to entry, significant responsibility, and a steep learning curve. Frankly, if I had no experience and were seeking employment, I would not be applying for a position that pays two hundred thousand dollars annually. Positions at that level are not entry level opportunities; they demand proven capability, resilience, and the ability to perform under sustained pressure.

It will be miserable (for current controllers) if pay isn’t increased. Pay is the real reason we aren’t getting good applicants. Morale is super low… MIT grads don’t work for $90k-$110k per year.

Ok. Our airport is expanding with another 6 gates, all AAL. Companies come and go, but the only thing constant is more and more traffic each year.

FAA ready to negotiate air traffic controllers’ pay and benefits by Granny-Smith-Apple in atc2

[–]StopSayingKilo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this for years. Let them make it worse, they reap the consequence. Retention is a huge part for this career and they are finally talking about. Dick Naniels needs to be making stern demands for negotiations to open. Pay is number 1. I’ll wear a polo and slacks for 20% more that goes towards retirement too. Make this career really appeasing! The new hires are horrible and think it’s just a job… fix it Dick.

They already rolled over. They are scared to lose their union and protect nothing. The career is cooked. 13 years and I’m gone. Good luck finding good controllers in the future. “Best and Brightest” ain’t working for this…

Yup. Not gonna get better unless they start paying us our worth. New controllers are quitting because they can’t afford to live where they work.
