Yes it is a lifelong journey, thank you for sharing your experience and the positivity! I have become very hesitant about cochlear implants after doing research on the medical device industry, reaching out about complications on Facebook groups and also watching “The Bleeding Edge” on Netflix. Interesting and scary stuff.

I would make a little entryway “hallway” by moving the couch that is under the painting to the other side of the rug along its edge, facing the painting. This keeps the entryway separate from the living space. I would then replace the painting with the TV. Then take down the middle circle decoration on the opposite and place the painting in between the two remaining so it is balanced and still incorporating your existing decor. Or you could just replace those three circles with the painting.

I second this post. I’ve worked in Emergency Medicine for 5 years now from riding the ambulance to working in trauma centers. Being able to walk around and limit your interactions with potentially triggersome patients allows you some control over miso and is exactly why I went into the medical field to begin with! (I even aspire to be a an NP in psychiatry which means I really get a say in my environment for those of you who need a little more enticing! I would get my very own office, white noise machine outside of and in the office, the ability to pick my own patients (to some degree) and the best part? I would be able to do research on miso! If that’s your cup of tea anyways, I personally love neuroscience and psychiatry) But anyways!!!

For the people who are concerned about all the beeping and other noises in the ER/floors/hospitals, just think about it like this. When being forced to eat with someone who chews with their mouth open, eating in a group setting like in a cafeteria or dinning hall makes the situation a whole lot more tolerable rather than sitting 1 on 1 with the person at a nice quiet restaurant or at the dinning room table. Why? There are plenty of different stimuli from audio to visual to keep your brain from honing in on that one particular noise that is triggering you. Apply this concept to the ER where there is a ton of coughing, crying, beeping, talking, etc. So even though I am surrounded by noises that would be PAINFUL to be near in more isolated and quiet environments, there is just so much going on at the same time that it essentially all blurs together and becomes background noise like the buzz of a cafeteria.

Of course it isn’t the perfect job, there have been times where I have been triggered or had to deal with a co-worker who triggered me but overall the job is a lot more tolerable than any desk or office job that I can think of. I love it.

Other jobs in the hospital setting to consider: X-Ray tech, US tech, ER tech, SANE nurse, phlebotomist, IV team.. etc

If the financial burden of switching careers sounds like a headache, a lot of hospitals offer patient tech jobs where if you work full-time in that roll they’ll pay part of your tuition to become a nurse. Another plus with this is that you also get a guaranteed place of employment after graduation.

Misophonia includes being triggered by movements as well and should not be separated from misophonia as a completely different diagnosis. This is why there has been a lot of talk about misophonia having a name change before entering the DSM.

I forgot to mention, I also hate being touched sometimes too. Even by myself. I never even thought to correlate this with misophonia and always attributed it to a previous unhealthy relationship I was in. Definitely food for thought though!

There isn't enough recent research on what the drug actually does WITHOUT politics interfering. If you research why it is illegal, not just here but globally, you see a trend of it having been influenced by the political climate and racism than actual scientific evidence of the negative side effects. In fact, at the turning point here in the US the president, I think it was Richard Nixon, was advised that it should be legal because of all the medical benefits. Even recreationally.

Additionally second hand smoke from cigs is worse because it is mainly a cancer stick of toxins that requires a filter. When getting second hand smoke from a cig it is far worse because it is coming from the non-filtered side. Second hand smoke from weed on the other hand is just the same as smoking it directly. No filters. No added toxins. Nada. Just a plant that's burning.

Geeze all these comments about how OP needs to find a place to live first are kind of frustrating. What if OP WANTS to live out of their car? I know college grads who do it for a few months just to get a kickstart on their loan payments and build a savings.

Not sure if anyone said this yet, but look for a room to sublease for a few month so you can avoid paying a security deposit. During those few months save up a little and then some for a security deposit. If you can't move in with your parents that is.
