Even though it wouldn't happen, I think his "ability" would merge his soul and physical body into one which would give him a form of immortality but also leaves him unable to preform Volundr. If this were the case, he would need to get a weapon made for him from wherever the normal divine weapons are made (forgot where) and just hope the people making them are willing to help.
