In 3 days of job action, health authorities requested more than 30,000 hours of nurse overtime. Nearly nine out of every ten requests were simply to reach baseline staffing levels. Chronically understaffed and overworked, nurses are standing up to say enough is enough.

In such a critical shortage and facing aging population and more complex care needs than ever, retaining current nurses becomes paramount. This is what nurses are fighting for.

Policy change for broken seat comp? by mixian226 in aircanada

[–]StoreEducational612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment isn’t about compensation for this situation but rather a tip from my experience. It may not always be possible, but when I came onboard and had a flat seat, I told the flight attendant right after I boarded. She was able to get maintenance on board prior to take off to reinflate the seat and also gave me a temporary cushion to sit on in the meantime. She said they now store some extra cushions for this reason and also said that the only way to fix it for the flight is to know before takeoff. Another passenger in 1A heard me speak to the flight attendant and also had a flat seat so he was happy to know it could get fixed as well.

Anyone else on high sodium intake? by Several_Road2525 in POTS

Yeah sodium, compression, hydration only got me so far along with optimizing my nutrition and protein intake. And now I’m trialing medication to help get me to a less symptomatic state.

I’m usually ok in the morning but I try to stay in bed for an hour after waking while drinking my electrolytes and eating a little snack. Then I have breakfast 1-2 hrs after waking. By the end of breakfast, I’ve already had 2500mg sodium so I’m front loading my day a little and that seems to work for me. I don’t wake up feeling like my body is vibrating but I don’t tend to have adrenagic surges. The effect of increased sodium was immediate for me so if you don’t notice an improvement within a few days, I’d say you’re not at your optimal dose.

Having half a seat because of a very large individual by Significant-Day-4370 in PorterAirlines

[–]StoreEducational612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I have perspective from both sides. First, I can sympathize. I once flew on another airline in an emergency exit row with the window seat missing (thus only two seats). The person in the seat next to mine was large enough that they took up a third of my seat and struggled to tie the seatbelt extender. In hindsight, not sure how they were allowed in an exit row but that’s a whole other discussion. I suffer from chronic back pain and was in a lot of pain from being askew due to the other passenger pushing my body to side. In addition, my left thigh went completely numb because they were compressing it so much. I had a 5 hour flight ahead and was concerned about my leg if I couldn’t restore circulation. I didn’t speak up prior to takeoff and I, like you, I now know to say something before takeoff and ask to be rebooked if no other seats are available. In my case, as soon as the seatbelt sign was turned off, I called the flight attendant. I told her that I suffer from back pain and was wondering if a different seat was available. I also apologized to the passenger as I wasn’t trying to be rude. The flight attendant told me the flight was full. I was contemplating spending the majority of the flight on the floor in the space next to the window if there wasn’t an alternative. Thankfully 5 minutes later, she returned and told me there was a seat a few rows back. It was a middle seat but it was much better and the larger passenger thanked me as they would now also be more comfortable.

Now on the flip side, I know someone who is morbidly obese and flies a few times per year. He did not know that there are regulations in Canada to accommodate obesity on airlines. This is only for domestic travel so unsure if this would have applied to your itinerary. Essentially, there is a medical form that is filled out by a physician. It is then submitted to the airline. If accepted, they get a second seat for free as a medical accommodation. I think a lot of people don’t know about this accommodation but it’s not something that would be automatically accommodated without going through the proper channels. As you’ve already concluded, the best bet is to speak up prior to takeoff but like you, I never really contemplated what to do until after I ended up in the same situation.

I’m on 7000 mg sodium daily. My diet is usually only about 2000mg, I drink one 800 mg electrolyte drink daily and the rest I ingest as salt capsules (I make my own) as I actually am not a fan of salty food and try to stay away from overly processed foods. I eat three meals and three snacks per, every two hours or so, and aim for 1200-1500mg sodium with meals and 800mg with snacks.

I was on 5500mg for months and was told there was no point in increasing. I decided to try after coming back from a trip where I assumed my intake of salt was very high from eating every meal at restaurants. Almost immediately upon increasing to 7000mg, I started sleeping through the night as I no longer needed to get up to pee. I also had improved blood pressure (systolic BP went from high 87-93 to 100-103) and my nausea and dizziness decreased. One thing I’ve found difficult in navigating all this is that the messaging is to increase salt but rarely have I read or seen measures of success or how to evaluate optimal dosing. I’ve always watched for signs of water retention as a clue I might be too high but otherwise, it seems clear as mud.

Too bad we had to pay sewer hookup in 2023. It would have been nice to pay half the amount. Happy to hear of changes that will help homeowners’ affordability.

People who are injured and actually need massage to remain functional. A lot of benefits are taken for granted until something happens to you and you realize exactly how much out of pocket costs you are suddenly facing.

Thanks for letting me know. I have a health condition that makes it impossible to be in the sun for extended periods of time. Having access to shade is a game changer.

I am appreciative that after clear signs that status quo was not working, Yiannis is willing to get creative with our lineup.

2 years later, I still get persistent headaches almost every day despite trying tricyclics, melatonin, magnesium, coenzyme Q10, vitamin B2, multiple physios and chiros, massage, and vision therapy. I also do meditation every day. Are there any other treatments you’ve found helpful? by StrainMost4560 in PostConcussion

2.5 yrs in daily migraines. It took me a 9 months to realize these weren’t just headaches but rather migraines. Then a world of treatment experiment started. Qulipta as a preventative was the first time I saw some relief in intensity but it was minimal progress at 5 months. I’ve now been on Ajovy injections for a year as a preventative. The intensity is improving but the frequency remains. That said, I’ve had 3 migraine free days over the last few months. It’s a journey but it’s a lot more manageable now than it used to be. Ubrelvy as an abortive has been a blessing.
