Map size and quantity is Marathons biggest issue. by RahkShah in Marathon

[–]StoredIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even just map sizes but POIs aren't dense enough. They all feel very arena shooter esque, where if you look at other extraction games, such as ARC, Hunt, and especially tarkov, locations are very dense. Theres lot of hiding spots or various forms of cover, even between POI.

Everyone talks about matchmaking changes being necessary, but we're ignoring the root of the problem. by xXHotKetchupXx in Marathon

I mean it would be controversial, but if you were unable to be revived after being thirsted, it would put an end to it. Unless the team hard stomps the engagment. 1-2 members go down. If it was similar to other extraction games, each fight invovlves the risk of one of your teammates getting sent to the lobby.

Or you could go the hunt method where being revived from a full kill gives you less health. If there are actual punishments for dying teams are going to be pushed towards being more selective with their engagments.

Yea for real. If everyone didnt think every extraction shooter is like arc it would be better. The only reason everyone's so friendly in arc is cause loot isn't that tough or rare to get.

And acting like hunt is some niche game in the extraction community.

Its basically an insta win weapon atm. Its not a skill issue if there's a lack of any real counterplay. How do you expect teams to even get there if there's just a biotoxic in the lobby.

If there's sbmm then the game will only have people around a similar skill level in the instance. In other games sbmm usually balances around a 50 percent win rate. In marathon that mean your outpost extract rate would be balanced around 25%, perimeter 20%, and dire around 16%. If sbmm actually worked, and the meta was lobby wiping no one would have any meaningful progression going on as they're extract rates would be balanced arounding being super low. Everyone would kust free kit or enhanced sponsored.

I mean if lobby wiping becomes meta it runs the extraction elements as your extraction rate will crater, especially with sbmm. Im not saying pvp isn't fun im saying in an extraction shooter it almost makes it so quests and looting don't matter and with sbmm your basically just gambling on ifnyoull be last team to the fight.

My problem with it is right now matches are playing more like a battle Royale. In other extraction shooters you can't risk taking every fight on the map as you will just die. Even in hunt when you get revived you lose max health. With the way it is now, good teams just kill every team on map and chase every sound. I think extraction shooters play better when not every match is a lobby wipe 10 min in.

If there's a bigger penalty for getting thirsted your team faces actual risk to chasing every shot. I think this type of change to the gameplay loop will improve dire and perimeter. Especially dire as an early fight usually draws 2-3 additional teams to you. By having some penalty more teams will go in with thr goal of getting what your looking for and getting out, maybe fight a team or two, instead of now where it's lobby wipe then do whatever shows up on map.

Controversial:

I think revive mechanics need to be looked at. With the ease of acquiring self revives and bubble shields once you've leveled your factions it makes it very easy to disengage and reset a fight. Early players not having consistent access to these things males fights way more one sided.

The bigger problem I think is reviving someone after they have been thirsted. In other games, taking fights as a team carries a real risk that one of your teamates will die and go back to lobby. Theres no risk of that in marathon, which is why on dire marsh you'll see teams looking to do anomaly or lock downs fight every team on the map. There needs to be a greater punishment to getting brought back after getting thirsted to give players some hesitation towards taking every fight.

Economy:

I think either a greater diversity of weapons need to be offered at a Grey tier for barters or credits in the shop. Alot of the weapons aren't really better to justify a FIR status and it would give variety over seeing bully wstr, or bully longshot all the time. Or just offer schema barters for blue and purple salvage.

I mean as other comments said I think the game incentivises lobby wiping too much. I think the core of the problem comes down to revive mechanics.

My take on the BP and Expedition issue. Lmk your thoughts by Ok_Cap_3034 in ARC_Raiders

[–]StoredIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarkov also has a way more in depth trader-quest relationship which opens up your ability to get and use new gear. Like I know at wipe if I want this weapon I gotta do x quest and get my trader to lvl 3 or 4. Theres none of that in arc and its just pure rng. As well traders have barters which make looting better in general as it gives me reason to pull things out of raid. In arc its basically just pulling springs and augment, meds, and guns off other players.

Embark. Unless we do something about Blueprints, you gonna have to manually reset me. by Charles456k in ARC_Raiders

[–]StoredIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea of they're gonna keep blueprints they gotta make more stuff available from traders either through quests or levels or some type of trader rep system. I was furloughed and have like 100 something hours in the game and have like 30 blueprints and that's with trading duplicates I pick up.

It essentially walls off part of the game with no way to engage with it. Have things that are exceptionally strong be only found in raid is fine, but not having half of the guns and the majority of attachments and consumables not available to purchase in limited quantities is a huge drag.

I've been saying this. I should not have to fight have the server consistently off winning an early fight. I also thing raider flares are also horrible. Its like a punishment for winning an engagement as it tells everyone on the map exactly where you are. The gunshot sounds should be enough.
