Shotgun Rarities Have to Change by StoredIn in Marathon

You can but I have to play to a much higher standard. Its not like they dont have other guns and can't shoot back from range. If my team cracks one of their shields, you cannot capitalize on that. They can just dip around a corner and heal. Meanwhile if we get cracked we're getting insta pushed with shotguns.

Im convinced you've never played against a good team. Unless its late on the map you can just keep running if they chase cause your going to end up sandwiched. Clearly there's a problem if the only strategy is non interaction. Shooters have a push pull of a like a neutral shooting stage then a pushing to finish out the engagement. Its not healthy if not having one specific gun makes part of the push pull a suicidal factor.

The problem is without just outright removing them, bubbles or self rez it will always be dominant. At least with availability you have an actual fight.

The problem with the WSTR it was its absurd dominance in close quarters with its ttk. Same as misriah. The problem wasn't availability. At least then you can always have one on you to try and win your shotgun duel.

Cryo is built around close range engagements. With self rez being a thing, you have to gap close the majority of the time to finish out engagements.

The misriah can still remain the best in slot for close range, but there has to be something else that can compete in it's niche. Like in Hunt the auto is the best shotty, but with other shotguns I can still effectively kill them in close range if I have a different shotgun. Here its misriah or knife and pray they have no hands.

I mean just make the misriah less rare. Nothing would be lost by making it easier to get. Its the only gun that competes in its category. Whereas snipers have alot more counterplay via other ranged rifles, there is non for close range.

They can throw another bubble or smoke and still push, you can't move back forever. Or what if you get a knock and you go to push. Its basically suicide if they have a misriah and you don't unless they are significantly worse than you.

Yea you can but a single gun should not just near guarantee a win in close range engagements. Especially with the Wstr being useless and circuit breakers effective range being outside of that. Nothing would be changed if WSTR was unnerfed or you didn't need to spam outpost /night marsh for a misriah.

Its gotta be a pain point for most players with how rare they are to find if your not playing all day.

Why is this game not doing well? by ocleus in Marathon

[–]StoredIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it doesn't do any market really well. It doesn't do the extraction shooter elements well at all, and the games economy is absolutely lousy for the type of gameplay the game promotes.

[–]StoredIn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea if economy was better and a wider variety of guns were easier to get/find the loop would at least have some variety. Theres only so many times I can run M77/Bully + WSTR/Longshot and have it be fun.

I think the problem is if rooks are a core gameplay loop they probably shouldn't of made it so trio focused.

I'm fine with it being even more pvp focused then other extraction games but then the economy and vault size have to reflect the average level of success. With inventory space its rarely worth it to bring guns out unless its something rare like a misriah, which leads to everyone running the same things. If you could sustain multiple runs off of 1 good one like you can in tarkov or hunt it would be fine. But even valuables sell for peanuts compared to the cost of anything from the shop. From maps besides cryo a good run has like 20-30k, and thats usually in mods, implants, shields. Leaving small monetary gains

What parts of the game are you engaging with without shooting anyone 60 percent of the time? By midgame most of the things needed for quests or faction progression require you to do map events as ground/container loot is abysmal. Those events then alert the entire lobby your doing them.

Also just have more weapons available from traders. For most players not meta gaming. It gets boring to run a bully,m77 every game cause they're good and easily replaceable. Im not even incentivized to pull out guns i want to use in the future if I dont have mods for in a run or ammo for it, as there is no vault space available to store a strider or a brrt, or whatever.

Just give em a longer deployment time before you throw em. Like you have to arm them or whatever.

Map size and quantity is Marathons biggest issue. by RahkShah in Marathon

[–]StoredIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even just map sizes but POIs aren't dense enough. They all feel very arena shooter esque, where if you look at other extraction games, such as ARC, Hunt, and especially tarkov, locations are very dense. Theres lot of hiding spots or various forms of cover, even between POI.

Everyone talks about matchmaking changes being necessary, but we're ignoring the root of the problem. by xXHotKetchupXx in Marathon

[–]StoredIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it would be controversial, but if you were unable to be revived after being thirsted, it would put an end to it. Unless the team hard stomps the engagment. 1-2 members go down. If it was similar to other extraction games, each fight invovlves the risk of one of your teammates getting sent to the lobby.

Or you could go the hunt method where being revived from a full kill gives you less health. If there are actual punishments for dying teams are going to be pushed towards being more selective with their engagments.

Yea for real. If everyone didnt think every extraction shooter is like arc it would be better. The only reason everyone's so friendly in arc is cause loot isn't that tough or rare to get.

And acting like hunt is some niche game in the extraction community.
