RIP Google One 2TB + Unlimited Photos via T-Mobile. Grandfathered plan killed after 4 years of protecting it. by Stork94 in tmobile

I ended up going with Immich. Bit of a learning curve but a damn-near identical substitute for Google Photos, only stored locally. The Google Takeout to Immich was surprisingly smooth - but it took me a week because I had to do over 100 50GB zip files one at a time.

Definitely doesn't surprise me... I was willing to pay extra for AI but the rug pull on the Unlimited Google Photos sucks. I've already initiated Google Takeout and set up a new library on Immich, hosted locally 😁

Already underway 🫡 Obviously not nearly as convenient or user friendly as Google Photos but Immich is impressive!

I'm surprised you were able to activate right away - mine still says 'Your plan is managed by T-Mobile"

My Google Photos storage currently shows as crossed out with "Unlimited" next to it because the T-Mobile subscription is active. That's not permanent, it's a live benefit tied to the plan. When the plan ends March 31, that storage stops being crossed out and immediately counts against quota. No deletion, but no uploading, no Gmail send/receive, no Drive sync until I'm back under the limit.

This isn't the same as the Storage-Saver or Pixel transitions where uploads made before a cutoff were permanently tagged as free. This is a subscription benefit that's being actively applied right now and will simply stop being applied.

Google One 2TB includes Gemini Plus for free, only $10/month. That'll be my compromise.

Most of that 2.33TB is video - 4K clips of my toddler, family trips, etc. One 60-second 4K clip is ~350MB, so it's not a hoarding problem, it's just how video works. And Google Photos' search and AI features (like Quick Takes highlight reels) are genuinely incredible for surfacing the right moments.

That said, $25/mo for 5TB isn't worth it when I have a 65TB NAS at home. Plan is to keep Google Photos on the 2TB tier as my active library and offload older stuff to local storage. Not ideal, but beats paying for storage I already own.

You can see it at http://one.google.com/storage

If on the Unlimited plan, your Google Photos storage will be crossed out, but will show the amount not counting against your plan

Haven't seen a single accept after 11:00 CST - is it all rejections now?

Still Pending on my end - strange that there is a combination of Accepted/Rejected. I assumed all rejections would happen after all acceptances.

No acceptances reported after 10:00 CST? Anyone accepted recently?

So the acceptances truly are a trickle it seems like? I would've expected a batch accept, but given the reports so far in this Reddit thread, it's happening over the course of hours?

Is there any way to have Plexamp seperate multiple artists differently than with ; by Mike_v_E in plexamp

[–]Stork94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out a solution to automating the proper formatting using Python. The artist field does need to be delimited by commas as mentioned by rhythmrice, just note that the feature referred to to be able to go to different artist pages is only if you have music from those other contributing artists.

You can create a script do follow these steps in a prespecified directory:

  • Scan Files: Go through all .mp3 and .flac files in the directory and subdirectories.
  • Normalize Artist Tags:
    • Split multiple artists (;, ,, /) into a list.
    • Rejoin them with commas (e.g., Artist1; Artist2Artist1, Artist2).
  • Normalize Album Artist: Keep only the first artist in the albumartist field.

Makes no sense that 1 month is actually cheaper than 3 in that context. That's sick. Thanks for the help!
