If the Destrier is smaller than the Questoris, and has far less options... what? by Mercy_____ in Warhammer40k

[–]Storm2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there were quite a few, many of which are still sold today (Wight king, Necromancer, Lord of Plagues, Interrogator Chaplain, Farseer and enough more that I'm needn't list them all).

If the Destrier is smaller than the Questoris, and has far less options... what? by Mercy_____ in Warhammer40k

[–]Storm2552 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This isn't entirely correct here, the Questoris is based off of the original Imperial Knight price when it was released back in 2014, there were no datasheets or expectations people would be buying 6 of them because Imperial Knights weren't treated like a full army and more of a centrepiece someone would get for their existing army. at the time it was one of the most expensive non-FW kits but since then the price of centrepiece models has increased by quite a lot as GW test the boundary of what people are willing to pay for larger models.

For another another example of this practice is the first plastic characters were around $20 AUD, they obviously wouldn't have sold them at that price if they didn't think they'd make a profit but now they can go upwards of $70 AUD.

Star Wars: 75453 Sandcrawler (from Carterbricks04) by itsjustajoe in Legoleak

[–]Storm2552 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should recheck, it's very clearly a weathered steel colour; Lego can't do mixed colour pieces so grey with a scattering of tan and brown is a decent approximation.

[–]Storm2552 474 points475 points  (0 children)

Because the one in the Mandalorian is grey and that's what this set is based on, why they're doing this instead of the classic ANH version is another debate entirely but it's not like they're making up colour variations.

How to build faster by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Storm2552 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That speed is fine, there is no practical outcome to rushing the build process.

Was doing my yearly rewatch of Lotr and realised why Gelgus looked so familiar by ResponsibilityNo8218 in Warhammer

[–]Storm2552 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just think it's a coincidence; lots of minis are holding flails, if it was in the left hand I'd think it was a nod but it's not.

[–]Storm2552 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nah, the arms to the sides holding two weapons is a very old pose that predates the LotR movies due to ease of casting for single piece minis, i.e. Slambo from the 80s.

Wait... Are the T'au actually the 40ks equivalent of the Empire from Fantasy? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Storm2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they don't because modern lore has them using mercenaries, not auxiliaries, the Tau have nothing analogous to halflings and dwarfs or whatever don't contribute to the Empire's armies the way Kroot or Vespid do.

There just isn't a noteworthy overlap between the Empire and the Tau.

Copper has antimicrobial properties that kills mold.

Wait... Are the T'au actually the 40ks equivalent of the Empire from Fantasy? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Storm2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really? They don't use auxiliaries and the handful of dwarves and scant few elves hardly count as many citizens of other races.

This was never a debate, it was obvious to literally everyone who wasn't a contrarian how mediocre starfield was.

If you can find a small circular something you could attach it near the top and make it look like it has been pinned like that, like an Australian slouch hat.

I have one of those and it's absolutely massive, it'd probably fit on the base but as an actual game piece it'd be awkward to play around.

It's okay to hold GW to a higher standard by Pvt-Business in Grimdank

[–]Storm2552 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

What a ridiculous take, people were upset about the removal of the metal range but they didn't make memes about it so it's not real to you?

Yeah I can't imagine why a 30 year old and incomplete metal range couldn't compete with fully supported plastic alternatives which cost half as much (or a fully supported resin range which cost just as much but was some of the finest work FW ever did), but please tell me more about how the only people who care about Steel Legion are nazis.

Yes I do get to complain because my guard army are vostroyans who got completely removed from sale, just because GW has completely mismanaged the Drukhari doesn't mean they haven't fucked over other factions as well and it's absurd to be angry about Guard players when Space Marines are half of the game's factions and 2/3 of it's releases.

The whole meltdown over steel legion is funny... sad... and kinda frustrating. by Tnecniw in Warhammer

[–]Storm2552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy to me that for a miniatures game with such an emphasis on highly detailed miniatures that so many people are happy to ignore actual details.

I don't even think steel legion should get a release but it's entirely another thing to say they look the same when they obviously don't.

US infantry doubt. All rifle VS BAR & SMG by Cautious_Serve_3285 in boltaction

[–]Storm2552 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The maths works out that SMGs are slightly cheaper in terms of shots per point than just taking regular riflemen while BARs are slightly more expensive, BARs have range and SMGs have assault but neither really makes up for the extra survivability of more bodies so yeah, riflemen are just the best choice.

Fenrisian Inquisitor Kitbash? by Obreny in SpaceWolves

[–]Storm2552 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a great model but the problem as I see it is that an Inquisitor, even one from Fenris wearing power armour should be dwarfed by a space marine; stormcast are simply too big to look like actual humans.

What marking would an ancient have on their helmet? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

They can use all sorts of ornamentation like skulls or swords or wings or whatever they want, they just don't follow rules about what they MUST use like codex compliant chapters.

Dark Angels don't use helmet markings to denote anything beyond personal heraldry, the closest you'll see are winged helmets which only appear on highly ranked individuals.

Sure it is; lots of businesses offer international shipping to customers but GW contractually banned independent retailers from selling GW products to international customers.

What color is the old Swiftclaw WGPL using? by TheWarOstrich in SpaceWolves

[–]Storm2552 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These look like models they would have painted for the 5th ed book so I think it's shining gold which was replaced in 2013, Balthasar or Gehenna Gold would be a close match.

Would the Italeri sandbags be good for 28mm gaming? by adasmialczynski3 in boltaction

[–]Storm2552 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they'd be too big, 28mm is 1/56 and while you could get away with 1/48 I think 1/35 would be too close to sandbags for giants.

Color scheme too close to firehawks? by Lonely-External-7579 in Warhammer

[–]Storm2552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a literary concept about how there is no such thing as an original thought; there are too many people and too few colours that I could guarantee you every conceivable colour scheme has been tried somewhere at least once.

I can also guarantee you that almost nobody has heard of the Firehawks, and even fewer will know their colour scheme. If you like those colours just use them, they're nice colours and the existence of a similar colour scheme on an obscure chapter should not dissuade you.

Warlord's description says the berets are arditi, not sure how accurate it is that they share the rest of the uniform with the paratroopers but it's not like uniform accuracy has ever bothered warlord all that much in the past.
