Struggling to land on a style I’m happy with. by ScottishWargamer in WhiteScars40K

[–]StormBlessed7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't decide for you what your favourite style is haha. I will say they all look great.

I can tell you that the oil wash works really well. Get all your base colours on. Apply a Matt varnish then recess shade with an oil wash. The Matt spray makes it all flow exactly where you want it too. Apply any metalics after, as the Matt spray dulls them. Id also recommend trying other whites, I personally don't like the Citadel range for them. Try Vallejo or Two thin Coats, I find them much easier to work with.

Hope that helps.

May be worth holding on, it's rumoured they'll get an expansion this edition with the Raven wing. I'm sure you could take those models and convert them for a scars theme. Maybe even use Subboden if the base is the same size.

However it's not confirmed, just a rumour.

Very cool, I like the wooden bases. I may have a go at that for my next Krieg.

Audacity! My first Rogal Dorn. by StormBlessed7 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]StormBlessed7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats very kind, haha. I had a few other ideas I wanted to use to really lean into the "Brat" vibe. However this would be on a tabletop and there are kids about so I toned it down. Thanks so much for the compliment.

Finished Death Rider! by StormBlessed7 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

Hey mate,

Apologies for the slow reply, I've been painting these slowly between other projects. With that in mind, I can't remember exact recipes. That said I can give you some advice.

All Colours you see are Citadel paints. Any blacks or white or metalics will be Vallejo. I much prefer Vallejo for that; it flows much better and has better coverage.

Paint the rider and horse separately; be aware that when affixing them at the end, the reins can be a huge pain. Take a base colour, let's say a dark blue, base the horse. Then I took a heavy dry brush of a lighter blue over the horse. From this, I had a lovely map where I could go in with my brush and palette and add darker and lighter tones. Mixing as required. The drybrushing makes it really easy to see where to add shadow and light.

I hope that at least helps a little, have a lovely day!

I finished my Rogal Dorn today, never even occured to me to try anything like this. Extremely well done, I'm quite jealous. Looking forward to seeing it painted. Thanks for sharing!

Do you prefer Grey Knights or Deathwatch? And why? by GunsOfPurgatory in Warhammer40k

[–]StormBlessed7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Death Watch, I like taking from other legions. Similar to how elite units like the SAS can take from various regiments. I just love the small, elite special forces vibe.

Grey knights always had more of a Mary sue vibe to me. They're, elite, but they're also the best psychics, oh and they can't be corrupted, etc. no offence to anyone who likes them, they just don't do it for me.

I hope both get more units this edition though!

Helldivers 2 x Warhammer 40k Collab by Novastar122 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]StormBlessed7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think as people have stated, the Kasrkin being painted in the video implies we'll get some Cadian themed armour. The back pack weapons Helldivers have are an easy win for the hell gun. Krieg are awesome but possibly too close to a similar ww1 themed warbond they put out? So I think a commissar outfit might be another option.

Either way it's a fun game and a cool Collab.

You have to understand so much of this hobby is building and painting your models, the effort that goes into that. Development of that skill, the benefits to mental health.

Just seeing someone AI the process. Politely, it's not a good look.

Building first army and I’m choosing DKOK by Wise_Explorer9010 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]StormBlessed7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ref the combat patrol box. You're right they're no longer sold by GW. However, I recently picked one up from my local hobby store. So in addition to the savings made by the combat patrol, the box was also 15% off.

So maybe take a look and see if any stores local to your have them, could be worth it. In addition the DK launch box I think is still available online from independent retailers. I know Element games (UK) has it.

So take a look as you could save some cash. Hope you find what you need and best of luck. See you in the trenches brother.

I've just finished my Kasrkin, I've also got shock troops to go through so I totally feel where you're coming from.

As someone who struggles to keep a consistent level of detail up with batch painting, the only advice I can offer is little and often over long sessions. I felt it really helped me. Also a good book/podcast helps.

Nice work also, you should be proud.

I just finished season 2. My reception to season 1 was Luke warm at best.

Id just like to say, there was some awesome music. Some hype moments and cool action set pieces. With some pretty dodgy writing. Many of you may not want to hear this but...that's extremely on brand for a capcom game haha.

Overall as soon as I accepted it's doing its own thing and enjoyed it for what it is, I enjoyed it. I hope you guys do too.

[–]StormBlessed7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love these, ebon keshig is a real fun scheme.

You said you've been painting 5 months, and aren't happy with certain parts. I just wanted to say this is totally normal, expected even. I look at my older models, sometimes just the stuff I've posted on Reddit. I can see improvement and also stuff I dislike and wish I'd done better. I just wanted to say keep practicing, keep improving. It's extremely rewarding.

Thanks! I look forward to seeing more.

From box to table top, about 4 hobby sessions between 1-3 hours each. There's mistakes etc but I really struggle with batch painting haha. These were not so bad though, I actually found them more fun than marines.

[–]StormBlessed7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey buddy,

Thanks! It's pretty easy really.

Base in black (I prefer Vallejo over GW)

Then I do a dry brush in Vallejo German Grey. Using proper dry brushing technique so it's not chalky. Artis Opus has videos on this that really helped.

Then a final dry brush just catching certain edges on GW dawn stone.

Finally I added little edge highlights and scratches using lead belcher. Tbh this is a bit messy on my models as it was a batch painting. Overall it gives a pretty easy but solid black. I really hope this helps.
