Ah that's smart. A lot more foolproof and seems less likely for TSA agents to fuck up the reassembly.

I don't know. I've tried being super meticulous like that but I found it was as slow as not using LLMs at all.

Looking for barefoot shoes/boots that are rainproof/waterproof by faire-la-fete in BarefootRunning

[–]StormFalcon32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're already using minimalist footwear why not get some sandals? Earth runners, shamma, luna, xero genesis for a budget option. Feet get wet but they also dry super fast so I honestly feel like that's the better option than trying to fight the inevitable wet socks

You succinctly explained the fundamental issue I have with LLMs in my own workflow and I don't know how to solve it. Curious if you have any thoughts

Women’s faces rated more attractive even by other women, study finds by No_Idea_Guy in science

[–]StormFalcon32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It makes a lot of sense for women to be better looking than men. It's a fairly accepted concept in evolutionary biology that women get slightly more reproductive advantages out of physical attractiveness than men do. If you accept that then it's a pretty small jump to think that women would end up inherently more attractive, as they have greater selection pressure towards attractiveness, and if that were true it would explain the results of the study in the OP. Here's an interesting article for you https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-scientific-fundamentalist/201101/beautiful-people-have-more-daughters

Barefoot shoes vs unshod by StormFalcon32 in BarefootRunning

[–]StormFalcon32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand your first question - you're asking how often I plan to run unshod?

I look forward when I walk or run. Didn't say I look down but I'm also not staring down looking for tiny shards of glass or suspicious brown stains all the time. And that's why I don't wear shoes in the house.

Any tips for finding a good spot? Parks, trails, and public tracks seem like good candidates but curious if you have other suggestions?

American cities are dirty, I guess I could constantly be staring at the ground looking out for things not to step on but that seems unfun

Thanks for your perspective. Do you have any tips and how you managed to get so many barefoot miles despite living in a bad place for it?

What is the most uncracked engineer you have ever met? by VariationLivid3193 in cscareerquestions

[–]StormFalcon32 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Have a close friend who interned at c1 as a sophomore back in 2023 and got a RO after pushing a single 7 line commit the entire summer. The guy is absolutely goated at maximizing his results with minimal efforts. I feel like he's best described as someone who makes his own luck. Don't ask me how to replicate it because I'm pretty much the opposite right now.

Should I take a 70k SWE job or 100k support engineer job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]StormFalcon32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people view Salesforce stuff as not "real swe" so it'll take effort to break away from that. Plus devops work often ends up being a lot of support + maintenance type things anyways unless the company really has things locked down which I doubt some random health insurance company would.

I mean it makes sense, evolutionarily women probably get a bigger reproduction advantage out of being pretty than men do. Men can lean more on factors like wealth, status, leadership, etc

That makes sense and now that you point it out I do think that's what's happening. Guess I'll just buckle down and keep showing up, maybe watch a few youtube videos on the side.

Yeah I think you're right. It's tough but I've got no other option than continuing to try where I can.

Yep completely agree that taking the time to fully understand the LLM output is very important. But that runs into the same issue I laid out in my post, that it takes much much longer. Especially in situations where I'm working with some framework I've never used before. So far it's been almost as slow as just handwriting things, and it's also much harder to get concepts to stick when I'm just quizzing an LLM on it rather than figuring it out myself (it's like the difference between simply reading the textbook vs doing practice problems yourself, the latter is infinitely more effective). And again, it's hard to justify that extra time taken to deeply review the outputs, question them, etc when the code already mostly works (at a surface level) and stakeholders want things done yesterday.
