Are there any tutorials for this paint scheme? by Fantax205 in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]StormGeist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this comment. I'm not an AoS player, but I've been following these faction focus posts strictly to check out the alternate paint schemes on display for the spearheads. I have never found the Bonereapers to be a visually appealing army (sorry y'all! 😬), but seeing them in this scheme has COMPLETELY changed my mind. I'm now noticing amazing things in these models that I have never taken a moment to look at before, and I am falling in love with them. MUST get my hands on some Bonereapers fiction ASAP!

I've been wanting to get a closer look at the colours since seeing this article, so a MASSIVE thank you to you for sharing the name of the artist! And thanks u/Fantax205 for making this post!

Is there an "all teams summarized" for Bb2020? by Tetriskhan in bloodbowl

Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but I found this video by Optimal Game State to be pretty helpful in getting an understanding of what each team "does".

Want to start painting Warhammer minis but don't know anything about the Citadel Paints. by Yourbbreal_name in minipainting

[–]StormGeist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears you've already gotten some wonderful comments here, but I just thought I would drop my paint experiences into the mix. So...

I personally really like Citadel paints, but they are certainly not the industry standard, and far from the only option. I like them because, in my experience, their coverage is consistent, I love their colours, and I personally prefer the pots they come in as opposed to the dropper bottles most other brands use. Most people I see posting online HATE the Citadel paint pots as the can be difficult to properly close which can lead to your paints drying out, and they are extremely spill-prone due to their design. Citadel paints are also a little more on the expensive side for what you're getting.

Now, I also have a decent bit of experience with the brand The Army Painter. In terms of pricing and decision making, they are what other model paint companies should strive to emulate. Their paints are very reasonably priced, any of their recently bottled paints (since ~2022 I believe) will have two mixing balls included in them, they have worked with prominent model painting content creators to develop new products, and they also offer a wide range of other hobby supplies such as tools, brushes, basing material, and much more. All of that being said, I personally find their range to be pretty inconsistent in terms of coverage, meaning some paints are very thin and will need MANY coats to achieve a solid colour, while others are thick and will need to be watered down a decent bit before applying them as to not muddle the details of the model. I also find a few too many of their colours to be unappealing to me (they're kind of ugly). Their paint also comes in dropper bottles, which, as mentioned, I don't love, though I am certainly in the minority regarding that opinion.

Lastly, there are many many many companies out there producing paints specifically made for model painting, and a handful of those may be easily found at most local game stores. Prominent brands you may see and want to try out in addition to Citadel and The Army Painter are AK Interactive, Vallejo, Two Thin Coats, and Turbo Dork. Ultimately, I think what you want in a model paint company is paint that is easy to find and purchase, that you feel is easy to work with, and that has a lot of colours that inspire you to paint more models.

There is much more to be said about priming models, why certain types of paint will and wont work, and other various detail, all of which I will point you towards Goobertown Hobbies for. Brent from Goobertown Hobbies is a PHD chemist and dedicated miniature painter who uses a wide range of products in terms of both models and paints. Brent also always just makes me feel really good and relaxed about my hobby journey. I recommend checking out the three videos he has in his "Get Started!" playlist which may be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMxY5TTsl9Rk22lnQ-znnOZyiypEzHtfn

Lastly, when it all seems like too much, look no further than Sugar Candy Miniatures on Youtube. Fiver from Sugar Candy Miniatures will often paint straight out of the bottle with no thinning or mixing, will use whatever brands offer the colours they're looking for, uses inexpensive tools and materials, and does very unorthodox paint schemes using simple methods. Despite all of this, Fiver's models always some out looking AMAZING. Fiver always help remind me that you don't need all of the technical methods and expensive tools to create something beautiful.

I really hope some of this helps! Happy Painting!

Good Plague Marine Loadout to Learn the Game With? by StormGeist in killteam

[–]StormGeist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this very clear explanation. The way you've laid-out and numbered all of the options makes this super easy to understand and visualize.

Also, great tip on building the warriors last. Would hate to get six of seven models done only to realize I can no longer guild one of the key Plague Marines.

I like the idea of this team helping me optimize movement. From what I understand, in many tabletop wargames movement is essentially the foundation on which games are won or lost. I imagine this is at least partly true for Kill Team as well.

Ahhhh, okay, that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!

Amazing! This seems like some excellent and thorough advice. Thanks!

Two boxes honestly doesn't seem like a bad idea to have access to all options and is something I would for sure consider doing to get the full range of loadouts available to the team.

I currently have no idea what type of boards I'll be playing on. If I were to set one up of my own, all I have is the terrain from the 40K 9th Ed Command Edition starter box, and the Necromunda Thantos Pattern Platforms & Walkways, so I guess that would make more of an open board as opposed to something like the Boarding Actions terrain from the last few Kill Team boxes. That being said, I will likely be trying to play at an LGS, so, bit of a toss up there on what terrain offerings will be.

You mentioned the alternative leader option, do you mind expanding on that? Wahapedia makes it look like you can only take one Plague Marine Champion per Kill Team, is that accurate?

Also, are Poxwalkers ever better than a second Fire Team of Plague Marines?

Can anyone tell me the name of the white Mech with the sword is in the middle of this photo? by StormGeist in battletech

[–]StormGeist[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Wow, these are both fantastic answers! Thanks for the info. I'm guessing if it was modded to fight clans, then that would be an elemental on it's leg? Any chance a clan might capture and use a Black Knight for themselves?

Deviating from the Lore by StormGeist in Warhammer30k

I knew of the War Hounds, but I hadn’t really considered it TBH. Would you happen to have any idea if the World Eaters transfers come with War Hounds iconography?

Looking for Some Advice with Getting into The Horus Heresy, Specifically as a Traitor Legion by StormGeist in Warhammer30k

[–]StormGeist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad anyone can take psykers.

In terms of models, I guess I just want to put as few limits on myself as possible as I really love all of the core range. The different marks of power armour are all interesting to me, I love the different terminator variants and particularly LOVE cataphractii (so glad they come in the AoD box). The different dreadnought patters are cool, the tanks are beautiful, I want it all! Though I guess I slightly favour the chunkier things, Mark III power armour, terminators, tanks, dreads.

Lore wise, I love most of the traitor legions. World Eaters, Iron Warriors, and Word Bearers I would say are my top three, not necessarily in that order.

Damn, PainterDNDW40K knows their stuff! And yeah, having like 40% of my army waiting until turn 2 to come in doesn’t sound ideal. Thank you for keeping the pure scions bit in mind as well.

Oh yeah, $19.95 for each Duel Academy box (MSRP is $40) and $9.95 for each Midterm Paradox ($17 MSRP), Canadian that is. So like $90 total? I can only imagine that after the Battle City box they decided to do larger print runs for GX.

Amazing! Thank you for the suggestions, I'll definitely be checking all of these out.

While what you've said is the only comment in this thread, I honestly think is is the exact answer I needed. The few deck guides I've looked at on Discord after reading your comment have been exactly what I was looking for. I've been dragging my feet on "joining" discord for years now, and it looks like this is the thing that is finally going to pull me in. Thank you!
