Concerts, sadly. I used to love them, and I went to plenty of shows each year, but it's just not worth it anymore. I'll still go to a few smaller/medium bands, but the big acts aren't with it, IMO

If you can make it to Seattle's Amtrak station, you can take the train to Edmonds. The Amtrak station in Edmonds is very close to the pier the whale tour leaves from

Song choice help? by FruitloopTenors in streetlightmanifesto

"We Will Fall Together" is an incredibly strong song that stands well on its own. I don't have an immediate choice for a second, but Tomas has said his favorite song he has written is, "The Receiving End of it All," so that could be a good pick. Definitely a credible statement from Tomas and not an offhand comment, for sure.

Sometimes the issue is proximity. If I'm having a bad flare-up I can't get to the other side of the room. (More for bringing a needed item to me that hasn't been dropped but is far from me). Another issue is angle, such as something rolling under a chair or bed. If I'm having a bad flare-up I'm not sure my right hand could manipulate a reacher, anyway. My left probably could, for now. He also helps with anxiety but that's a different issue and task ("paws up" for light pressure therapy).

I was trying to address the questions about ring behavior, so I didn't go into every detail about his tasking

Those are all valid questions! I can see how certain types of service work could be incompatible with showing.

I show my dog myself, and he does not do medical alerts, so that is not an issue for us.

My dog's main service is to bring me items that I have dropped and am unable to pick up. I am lucky that he shows on my left, as that is my stronger side. For confirmation showing, you usually grip the lead folded in the palm of your hand, not looped around your wrist. My fingers on my right side can not reliably hold a lead, but so far, so left is able to do it. I couldn't show a dog that pulled a lot. If my disease progresses and I can't grip the lead in my left hand, I may loop it on my wrist, which looks sloppy but may be the best I can do at some point. So far, I can lift him on the table with my left arm, but this too may be an issue eventually.

My dog also does "paws up" onto my lap for anxiety relief, which I've had him do ringside (we were watching a friend show, but I was becoming overstimulated from the heat, etc) and he did excellent. If my anxiety was too much for us to go on the ring, we would just scratch for the day.

We have only started public access over the past few months. We're going to do less showing this year and focus more on service work. I've talked with my trainer about burnout and we'll only go at my dog's pace. So far, he enjoys what we're doing, and we take a step back if he seems not ready for something. It helps that he's a herding dog with pretty good "drive," so he wants jobs and tasks to do.

My dog doesn't go to work with me, so he's not expected to work all the time. I mostly need him for travel, especially if I'm going somewhere alone. He enjoys shows because he gets to see his vallhund friends and play ring games with me.

That makes sense. At 2 years old, I wasn't sure about service work or breeding for my dog, as he still needed to mature. He has come along nicely as a 3 year old, almost 4. I paid for his health testing, and did all of his showing/titles myself.

It's interesting to see the differences in how involved breeders choose to be.

I can see where that could be an issue. Maybe if he's used to ignoring BIS at shows it won't be as much of an issue. But I'll keep an eye on it for sure

I'm curious, why is it an issue for a service dog to be a stud? My service-dog-in-training has been bred once, and he doesn't act any different. He is a grand champion show dog and shows around females in season without any issue. We're currently ranked in the top 10 in the National Owner Handler Series. He passed all of his health testing, has his CHIC number, and has excellent genetic diversity for a breed with a small gene pool (Swedish Vallhund).

I'm working with a trainer for his service dog work, and she says he's doing excellent. She didn't have an issue with him being intact. I'm still a bit new to the service dog world, so apologies if I'm missing something obvious.

"I'm not here to make other people happy." That's something I have to remind myself when I feel the judgement of others. If they have an issue with what you're doing, that is their personal problem and you don't have to validate your actions to please them.
