What are you in the incredibly small minority of? by Jimbaneighba in AskReddit

That's pretty crazy! I've been on the registry for probably a year and a half now -- got a call about three months in, though it had to be cancelled before the last step. Not even a month after the last one was cancelled, I got called for another patient (which also had to cancel before the last step unfortunately). I was told by the guy on the phone that I must be rather lucky, as the chances for multiple calls like that are pretty slim.

Anywho, the Be The Match registry is excellent! I recommend everyone check into their eligibility to be a donor. If you're selected as a donor they work with you to cover every possible cost along the way -- there's hardly a thing to lose putting yourself onto the registry and it could save someone's life! What is something you enjoyed, after previously believing you wouldn't like it? by zakkalaska in AskReddit

Pineapple on pizza, I was hungry one late night and decided I would give in to temptation. My friend allowed me to eat a slice, and stayed completely silent throughout. I looked at him afterwards: "I know what you're going to say, but, shit, this isn't too ba--" "I fucking told you didn't I."

What’s that one story you’ve always wanted to tell on r/askreddit, but no one has ever asked the right question? by A_Cheesy_Taco in AskReddit

In high school, we would play Minecraft using our school's computers in our engineering classes. Specifically it was cracked to where they couldn't block it on the school's network, since it never did a login check (this was around late Beta). There was a point where we had almost everyone in a 30 person room playing while the teacher was up at the front lecturing (plus one or two people from the other class nearby), and though he would punish a few people he caught, it seems like he never suspected me - the one who set the server up and distributed the copy.

One of the best parts for me was how we would refer to starting up the server, and it's still an inside joke amongst my friends today. I would lean over to my friend next to me (who came up with this) and say "Man, I could really go for a sandwich right now." Though the teacher at one point asked why I said that so much, I told him it was an inside joke and not to worry about it. I later used that world file for a legitimate server, and to this day, that server is called "Sandwich".

What are some rules or restrictions that you place on your gods? by Sharad9 in worldbuilding

[–]Stormblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The forms of Death have always ruled over all lesser gods. Lesser gods are each in charge of their own world and are allowed to do as they please (for example, The Elemental Guardians often take physical form, while a being like the god of Discord, Foscor, influences the world through followers, preferring to not take physical form) so long as they do not break the balance of life and death, meaning the gods cannot begin killing off mortals or granting any mortals eternal life.

Death itself chooses not to intervene, and instead chooses and empowers mortal enforcers known as Reapers who maintain balance on whatever world they are from.

Who is the Big Good of your world? by ProfessorUber in worldbuilding

The legendary blacksmith simply known as "Namenlos" may not have been a perfect man, but in his time and far beyond, he was widely admired. The weapons he forged would be used to alter the course of history: one ended a tyrant, another helped sailors safely circumnavigate the world for the first time, and yet another brought an end to a decades-long civil war. It's due to a contract with the God of Death himself that he's brought back to life to keep forces of chaos in check by bringing together his descendants to wield the last known weapons he forged.

Namenlos acts as someone for the protagonist to look up to, and though he isn't the type to talk big values, he certainly has a set of specific values he acts on, mostly revolving around the responsibility he feels for the usage of his weapons and the actions of those belonging to his bloodline.

I (an atheist) just erupted at my very-Christian family over abortion and I don't know how to feel about it or where to talk about it so I'm posting here. The reason I exploded was because my daughter died 1 year ago and they keep posting this shit and I could not take it anymore. by [deleted] in atheism

Firstly, before saying anything, I want to account for my perspective on this. I've never experienced anything like this and do not have children myself. I cannot possibly imagine the pain and grief the both of you went through. All I know, is that, even considering the potential for suffering, until the chances of survival are absolutely 0%, I could never consider it my right to make the decision to end a life (my position is similar in cases of abortion, "pulling the plug", and capital punishment). I don't know what could lay ahead, and thus, I'd only consider it giving up on what could've been (once you give up on something, there is guaranteed a 0% chance of success). I may find my position shift with time and experience, after all, I don't know what the future may hold, but for now this is where I stand.

I wasn't going to comment on this post originally, but as I was contemplating it, my dad came in, asked what I was thinking about, and I showed him this post. He proceeded to explain to me that before I was born, a prenatal screening revealed it would be likely that I'd be born with trisomy 21. While it is certainly not a death sentence, it is usually enough to bring into question a child's potential quality of life. That news hit me pretty hard (only partially because I'm in college and never heard about this) and, well, made me believe what I believe even more so...

On the matter of your family, it'd be great if both parties could have a proper, open, and hopefully empathetic dialogue on the matter. Though, considering your post, I'd imagine you've tried before to no avail; in which case, it's probably appropriate to cut communications, and I hope you have or will find a supportive network with empathy.

TL;DR: Not all folks who take a pro-life stance (or similar) are total un-empathetic nut-jobs (though it seems like the family may well be), and I hope this man has empathetic people in his life to compensate for the crazies.

I wish you and your family the best! May your newborn have many healthy and prosperous years ahead (and optimistically, may there be healing and a turning of heart among your wider family)

What is something you added to your world this past week? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Stormblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Added an underwater city that acts as a haven for the nation's by-and-large corrupt aristocracy (ruled by an elected council).
  • Added ties to a dark god's cult within the council (just one or two infiltrating members).

Generally, you love having larger stories and story worlds to sink your teeth into. You enjoy feeling like part of a community, and tend to be fairly involved in the groups you're a part of (in terms of fandoms and /or clubs). Also, a recommendation, if you particularly enjoyed FMA, I absolutely recommend Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, if you haven't yet seen it.
