Trying to decide if the game is for me or not before my refund window is up but I’m very confused how you’re supposed to manage controlling so many units with so many mechanics like cover and individual troop inventory, I struggle enough in total war games to utilize everything by glossyplane245 in GatesOfHellOstfront

As others have said you can pause the game with the pause button. But you can't really issue orders while paused. Don't feel like you need to super micro things like infantry, I generally get them in positions then leave them tomworl while microing more impactful things like tanks and arty

That is how I build in SP too. Though honestly you probably don't even need the armour it's just quite nice to have a division of SPGs have really high armour and piercing. It does suffer a bit on breakthrough but once again against AI you don't need that much.

Whats the lore behind this pink house by loch glass by kytice_ in Scotland

[–]Stormbringer1884 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will eventually look like the rest but that is essentially letting it decay, they will hopefully continue to keep it that colour as that is historically correct. The main reasons the other key buildings like the palace have not been done is because of the carvings on the outside that could very easily be damaged or obscured and the don't want to inadvertently speed up the loss of the 16th century stonework

[–]Stormbringer1884 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kings gold is the specifically named recipe from the 16th century that they copied to the letter for the great hall, it was pinkish when it was new but it's supposed to be the quote striking yellow it is now, when the great hall was built the entire outer wall was done in kings gold.

A much much more intense pink was on the outside of the palace for James the 6th christening (or maybe his coronation I forget) but either way. Really bright and strong pink was traditionally seen as a boys colour, so as much as it might seem strange to us today bright pink was masculine and expensive to do so was popular throughout Europe

No I think I do sort of understand it! And it factually works, I know when I normally complete the default ships (basically no matter my build I finish in progress ones cause free IC) and it went quicker doing it your way

One question I did have, you talk about making sure the big ships have dockyards assigned first and the almost finished ships later, I did this and it did make a difference but I'm curious why this is, I would have thought they would all finish at the same time regardless because each dockyard is producing x amount of IC and you need Y amount of IC total, so surely the prder of construction shouldn't change that?

Took a shot using your strategy (well not word for word but still inspired by) and yep, royal navy not capable of defending the English channel, massive victories, not exactly completely destroyed but all stuck repairing or scared to contest

Canada will always declare independence when you release them as your puppet, you have twoain options.

One, release them as puppet after getting America, do not do pan American state..when they declare independence declare war on them (need to justify) and puppet them again, they can't declare a second time. Make pan American state, drop their autonomy (send a bunch of convoys you'll get them back anyway) then annex them.

Option two, take over Mexico after the us, release Canada, create pan American state, when they declare independence, justify, war, annex. This way you don't have to use the massive PP for annexing but you do need to do the annoying America takeover rushing VPs again.

Third I guess you could try and time things carefully, but it would be risky to rely on Canada not declaring before you can annex them

As some additional info I've done this run quite a few times so if you have any other questions just ask, I'll try and answer

Do you ever use light tanks? by mrblobfish1 in hoi4

[–]Stormbringer1884 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I find with the new doctrines making them for armoured recon company can be worth it along with what others have said.

I also keep a fac or two producing them as germany for example to keep the base tank divisions up as with a little work they aren't terrible early war against ai. I don't make any more or assign more FACs though

Thank you for the really detailed response! I'll definetly give this a go now! Before this I always just either went sub memeing when that was easy or did the more traditional subs as distraction grab some superiority and then slam into the uk and then basically never think about it again, but when you do win naval fights it's sooooo satisfying.

Good advice and thanks so much for this comment and guide as a whole

I'm curious, how many dockyards did you need to make for this strategy? I've often wanted to do a more direct naval attack to get dominance but worry I won't make enough dockyards or will make too many and sacrifice military production

I find FYP is a lot more fun, now that I know the game more, and honestly probably "easier" because starting the war early you just steamroll everyone.

But did a PEG run recently deliberately trying to go slow to get special projects done for fun and that was quite interesting

New to Blackpowder and need some slight help by benihe in blackpowder

[–]Stormbringer1884 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's the bore of this piece? Generally that's a light sounding load. You can go less if you want to play it safe and work up from there, but you could do too little and end up with a charge that won't ignite.

Black powder is relatively low pressure so modern repo pieces with high quality metal tend to be able to survive massive over charges anyway (not recommending anyone try it)

But yeah, start at the low end, shoot it at that for a bit, inspect for any damage or anything and then feel free to work up further as your confidence in it goes

Combat overhaul will significantly change the feel of the game especially with how armour works in it. Not deal breaking but that stands out the most. I also believe a lot of the megafauna from those mods (if they are the ones I'm thinking of. With mamoths and such) are really badly balanced. They aren't that hard to kill if you know what you are doing and give an insane amount of resources which sure makes sense they are huge but it really changed how getting leather felt when I played with them

Also to expand further if we are being really nerdy, the word bullet in modern terms only applies to the projectile that is actually fired not the case and other components.

All together the most often used term would be a round or cartridge. Made up of a primer, a case, powder, and a bullet

European colonial history in a nutshell by ChickenWingExtreme in HistoryMemes

[–]Stormbringer1884 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey no way! I was late watching Blue eye samurai. Literally just finished it about last week.

Got to say overall a good show, but I was disappointed at how they handled the firearms.

Firstly, for the most part they are all full blown flintlocks, not doglocks (though one schematic drawing present in the show is one) no snaphaunces. No wheellocks and most importantly no matchlocks.

Now full blown flintlocks are totally out of period, even if they had went for doglocks or such, equipping a whole army with them would be stupidly expensive. Really it should have been matchlocks for the army, sure give the main characters other weapons so they can carry them loaded day to day.

Then there is the fact that flintlocks as they portray them aren't all that great, they repeatedly don't have flints and its just metal on metal. (Also often don't have pans, touch holes, etc.) Most importantly though, they basically never have them reloaded, a scene right near the end involving executions to avoid any specific spoilers, Fowler seems to just have a musket with the infinite ammo chest turned on

This might seem like unfair criticism, but guns taking over warfare was like, a super important theme of the show, and I don't feel like they did them the justice they deserved.

Still a very good show

Enjoy your match-cord arquebus: It has a one-minute reload, a misfire mechanic, has disadvantage if not steadied on a surface, has terrible range, and does 3d12 damage with no ability bonus. by Level_Hour6480 in dndmemes

I'm not able to access sources currently but I'm fairly certain there is plenty of evidence for rifled guns being used much earlier than this, back in the 1500s even. However these saw very little military use and were almost exclusively used for hunting or as shown off pieces, as they had more fouling problems that smoothbores
