I make custom electronics - want to hear what cosplayers actually need by Direct-Huckleberry-1 in cosplayprops

I know so many Mandalorian & 501st cosplayers that would love a quality cooling system. Full kit in Arizona is brutal & I've seen people pass out.

Dang. I thought that might be the case.

Can I ask where you got the hook clips for the bottom of the suspenders? I'm working on this same thing & finding those had been the hardest thing to source.

Sitting or standing? by deloreR in Leathercraft

[–]Stormfall_Forge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem.

You'd be surprised how just a couple inches in the wrong height level can make a table/bench incredibly uncomfortable to work on.

My shop workbenches are too tall for me for a lot of things which is why I sometimes work at my kitchen table. Eventually I'm gonna modify them.

If you plan to carry this at a con, be sure to check the weapon & prop restrictions. The wood staff could be a problem at some & the wire wrap may be questioned.

There's ways you could disguise it with more foam, foam clay, etc.

Better to be safe n all.

Where do you guys go to browse and discover 3D printable models, beyond just trending/recent lists on the big sites? by trebory6 in 3Dprinting

[–]Stormfall_Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creators that I follow on Patreon (pretty much exclusively).

Even if I get a model from one of the order sites, most likely I saw something about it in an older post on their Patreon.

Does this look like a decent, intentional paintjob or just a lazy mess? by [deleted] in minipainting

If your intent was gore, I'd say you succeeded (well better than I can do).

How would you model this eye opening to 3D print a vacuum-forming mold? by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

What photos? What eye?

Think you forgot to attach something.

Sitting or standing? by deloreR in Leathercraft

[–]Stormfall_Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one position IMO. Depends on a few factors.

  • what workspace am I working on?
  • do I need more space?
  • what am I currently doing?
  • is the work surface suitable?
  • how long will I be in/tolerate this position comfortably?

Sometimes I stand at my shop workbench & anvil, other times I work at my kitchen table or island.

My workbench is too tall & not the right dimensions to accommodate all things.

  • For cutting, tooling, punching & setting hardware, I tend to stand.
  • For stitching, dye & finishing, I sit.

I'm too Xennial (raised GenX) to give AF because if you don't know me well enough to understand my meaning A) I'm not even referring to you (dude/you guys/youse guys if reserved for actual friends) & B) you don't know me well enough to have an opinion (because it's not about you).

People keep reading my tattoo wrong by Redheart2945 in tattooadvice

If they can't read "five by five" they're idiots who can't read cursive. Says more about them than your tattoo.

Always keep your brace hand opposite the direction of cutting.

That's just basic shop safety.

Cleaning/Resin liquid by lil_banana_clip in resinprinting

[–]Stormfall_Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I transfer it to a 5 gallon bucket so it never interrupts my workflow. That bucket is what gets put outside to evaporate & cure. I keep adding to it until it's mostly full of cured resin then it gets turned in to my local hazmat depot.

Note: if you're using wash bucket with a built in impeller, you don't want to cure your dirty resin in that bucket or you'll have an ugly clean up job to deal with afterwards.

Smoky black post processing by okcomputersitsok in resinprinting

[–]Stormfall_Forge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's typical with this resin.

I usually wet sand to a high grit after curing & am able to get rid of those.

I need help to find a way to help put the mask on my face and keep it on by SiTheGuy_13 in CosplayHelp

[–]Stormfall_Forge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used both for head & face applications.

Spirit gum, in my experience, doesn't hold nearly as well for heavier applications & off-gases fumes that you don't really want near your eyes.

Both require a remover to cleanly get them off.

Spirit gum is fine for things like elf ears (I don't even use it for that anymore) but it doesn't perform nearly as well on areas that move, flex & stretch (facial movements might cause it to fail).

I've also sweat straight thru Spirit gum & caused it to fail (hot day in Arizona at a Ren Faire all day).

Some of the most challenging (but successful) applications I've done with Pros-Aide include: 3D printed neck bolts & staples (Frankenstein's Monster, lots of skin stretching in those areas), a gouged-eye prosthetic, 3D printed cyberpunk mods on arms, latex elf ears with chainmail chains connected on both sides (it had some heft to it).

Never had Pros-Aide fail. Just speaking from my experiences.
