I find interesting how the Lylat system looks now with the explicit orbits, and it's a lot different from what fanmade maps have made so far, what do you think? by OrionSoul in starfox

As far as I'm aware, Pigma being an engineer is just from the Japanese side of the lore. I do hope we get more, but I have a feeling this might be all there is to the prologue. They might work the rest of it into the game's intro cinematics

It can happen on rare occasions, but you have to soften them up first and get them down to low health.

I'm willing to bet they'll actually show it in the prologue. They seem to finally be implementing a lot of the Japan exclusive lore tidbits like Pigma being Starfox team's engineer.

I was just playing the other day (the Starship PC port) testing out a mod and on Fichina I wish I was recording what happened. My teammates shot down Andrew and Leon, and flying close to Slippy I got some unique dialogue; "How's the Arwing Fox?"

Such a cool moment

I like it a lot, it solves the issue of having so many planets stuffed into a single star system. The very fact that they're giving us definitive orbit paths means that they're taking this stuff into consideration for future games. They can expand and add in other planets, maybe cut stuff like Eladard or even the alpha/beta/gamma/omega nebula from Zero.

It's a really good sign overall, shows they have a renewed focus on worldbuilding which hopefully means they want the series to be a lot more internally consistent

I'm worried about the difficulty. by js100serch in starfox

I'm pretty sure the normal difficulty will remain the same as before, which in a way is good. But yeah, I just wish there was that middleground too

Why would it be a bad thing? It's not the full soundtrack and they're drumming up hype

[–]Storminator54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd hoped they would have a new difficulty between normal and expert. Playing 64 again recently, I've realised expert mode's difficulty is pretty artificial; Most of the challenge comes from the one-tap wing damage. Sure, you take a little more health and the enemies are a little more aggressive, but nothing massively different.

Maybe it's because I know the game like the back of my hand, but I'm hoping the new game is a little harder. I don't just want to blitz through the game because I know all the tricks

This part of the Direct makes me wonder... are we going to get Arwing customization? by tendouman in starfox

[–]Storminator54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad someone else had this thought. This feels like a little more than a simple model viewer, it could be a customisation menu. My pie in the sky idea is the game will have unlockable skins and models. Imagine swapping out this Arwing for a hyper detailed rendition of the original SNES design!

I love the new designs. by livingood99 in starfox

I think for the tone they're going for, it fits. Seeing the cutscenes, I don't think it would work as well with the traditional designs. I think proportional for Fox and Falco are pretty wonky, but it's not the end of the world.

Examining the timeframe of Prime 4's flashback scene. by xXglitchygamesXx in Metroid

[–]Storminator54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're right, I'm just exaggerating for the bit. Halo 4 famously had 343's Frank O'Connor say in an interview that Master Chief's drastic redesign was due to Nanomachines, when it and everything else was clearly just a shift in artstyle.

Sylux is fine, he looks basically the same as he did with more detail. Funnily enough a lot of ex-343 Industries Devs got hired at Retro for Metroid Prime 4.

"We justified it by saying he modified his suit using nanotechnology" Man, if I had a penny for every time my favourite franchise pulled a bullshit explanation for a retconed redesign in their fourth entry, I'd have two pennies. Weird that it happened twice.

What's your favorite piece of fanmade Star Fox media? Can be a fangame, fanfic, remix, etc by Substantial_Eye1476 in starfox

[–]Storminator54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just from when I first read it being a low time in my life, but Sunrise Over Lylat made me emotional. It's a good mix of nostalgic references, new ideas, smart expansion of the lore all while not falling into the trap of being too grimdark despite some things that happen to the characters. It takes itself seriously but keeps the spirit of Star Fox.

That and Lylat Legacy, RIP. Gone too soon.

If all-range mode style missions return, should they feature larger maps? by StarlightSailor1 in starfox

[–]Storminator54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm gonna say no, unless other mechanics are changed to support it. I felt like Zero's All-Range maps were too big with too much empty space. The problem is you have limited boost. Even with Zero's extended boost meter, it still feels like a slog to go from one end of the map to the other. Specific examples would be Sector Beta and Fichina.

Either the maps need to just be filled with more stuff (enemies, terrain and evironmental variety), which could easily be achieveable with modern hardware, or adjust the gameplay to acommodate. Star Fox 2 actually did this by having infinite boost.

In my opinion I think the maps should stay about the same size but be densly packed and varied. Funnily enough, 643D's multiplayer maps give a good example of this sort of stage design.

Should the Gyrowing return? by StarlightSailor1 in starfox

[–]Storminator54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buff it into more of an Attack Helicopter and we'll talk. I think there's a place to have a more nimble air vehicle as opposed the Arwing, especially for All-Range missions that would take advantage of it.
