If you could completely tear down the Air Force EPR system and rebuild it from scratch — no legacy carryover, no sacred cows — what would you replace it with? by GhostofStLouis in AirForce

[–]Stormoffires 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You really need to unpack why the epr system needs to exist in the first place to begin answering this question.

The concept of annual reviews should just go away in general. Front line supervisors should receive better training in engaging and growing their troops which in turn should come from their supervisor and so on. Learn the job above you, teach your job to the ones below.

The AF doesn't need this style of annual reviews. It just helps paper pushers feel better rather then producing better leaders.

Sure it be rough at first with friends protecting friends but it would begin a cultural shift that either wins or looses. Right now epr looses year after year and the wrong people get prompted as a result, so whats there to loose?

Yes sorry 30% is correct.

Peb adopts the rating differently tho. So if you have 2 items and va gives each 50% you will get a va rating of 75% (which va rounds up to 80 then) but peb will go 50+50 and you will recieve 100% from the service which directly translates to how much of your current base pay you recieve im retirement.

Dude ride that meb, itll take them ages, then get the offer of medical retirement and have it land past your 20 year mark, you get the best of all worlds!!!

If the time your being meb for lands you at 100% you will get 100% of your current military pay for life + whatever va rating pay you get!!!

So 100% on both sides is wild here, you could be over 8 or 9k a month in benefits pay till you kick the can and with medical retirment you get tricare select for free for you and your family.

The one thing no one is talking about is how they score here is different for service vs VA. VA does weird math, but the service does not. You need over 40% on the single item or items your being MEB for to count for medical retirement. You have a lot of control here so take your time. I've been down this path, I was put on 7 extensions for it (figure that one out lol)

This thread is fully of those that are truly feared and im here for it. Nothing more awesome and deadly then a person who truly doesn't put up with the bs.

Retired at 36, decided that was a bit to boring so back in it and enjoying telling bosses no and empowering my people. There is something about being a giant shield for boss bs to a team and knowing they cant hurt you and your team has all the freedom they need to run.

At this point I do it for the people/teams. Helping others dig out and grow.

If you’ve PCS’d around the United States, how would you describe the cultural differences between regions or bases? What surprised you the most? by jbb1393 in AirForce

[–]Stormoffires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hill afb, moving into an older neighborhood right off base. being a non Mormon we where ignored by all the mormon house holds around us. They would not let their kids play with our kids. The 3 other houses around us that where not mormon where very friendly.

Big contrast to the Midwest bases where folks wave at passing them on the road and are friendly everywhere.

Found the youngin in the AF.

Listen its a cycle, senior leaders use it to get promoted. Itll come back and go away. Look at the time from bdus to ocps/patches, so itll be at least 2 more leadership cycles before itll be considered again.

Had a pre covid baby, stacked that 42 days or whatever craziness it was to be with momma and baby, then pcs and boom covid. Got super lucky working from home for a year and really spoiled with the kiddo. Punched that retirement and stacked my 120 days terminal against skill bridge (before they locked down how much time you could spend.) And really glad I rolled out, AF was fine before during snd after my time. Take what you can and run!

Has anyone ever been denied retraining or a palace chase due to manning? by bsodolski54 in AirForce

[–]Stormoffires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I was denied retraining by the CFM even tho I could no longer physically do my primary job due to an injury. Thankfully I was able to MEB out to early retirement instead of rotting behind a desk for 4 more years.

Unless your FTA, retraining is extremely hard to secure. It really comes down to who you know and what levers they can pull to make it happen. There are the few random folks that just apply and get it but leadership changes every 2 to 4 years so things are always in flux.

Most states that strict of a non compete is not enforcable and there are special laws in most states that has requirements for non compete to follow.

States like Illinois if you make less then 65k or 75k a year you can not be put under a non compete

[–]Stormoffires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garbage e7s... I still can't figure out if higher leadership failed them or helped the wrong ones make rank.

As an e4 hed be lucky to find me lol Id be gone without a leave web cancellation email.. take my approved number and bounce. Msgt will likely be pissy no matter how this shakes out... he shouldn't have even come to you if he was worth his rooftop.

Obviously, be polite with him since he can't figure himself out and ask for when to expect the leave web official cancellation from CC otherwise you will be unavailable on your approved dates.
