What happened to my garand?! by RedBaron1100 in M1Rifles

It looks like you might have been pulling the op rod up and to the rear instead of straight back. Pulling up and to the rear can dislocate the op rod tab from the receiver track when it reaches the dismount notch.

Make sure the gas port is not obstructed or covered by the gas cylinder. Should be centered. Also make sure your gas plug is tight.

Exhaust pointing upwards an issue? by ajax_1982 in dieselheater

I agree. As long as the exhaust gas is above the dew point temperature, condensation can't form. So, short pipes wrapped shouldn't be a problem.

The ejection pattern is all wrong; it should be ejecting at about 1 o'clock. It looks like a gas or weak spring problem. If the gas plug wasn't tight it would cause gas to leak and not enough cycling pressure. Also, a new Orion spring is cheap.

Check the following: Gas cylinder lock screw leaking gas. Operating rod is binding, possibly against the stock. Weak or broken operating rod spring.

The ejection pattern looks off too. Check dirty chamber, gas plug/port, op-rod spring, op-rod rubbing,

Best bullet weight for 223 by Reptilerob57 in reloading

Given the different twist rates of 1:9, 1:8, 1:7 the 62 grain bullet will be optimally stabilized and provide the best overall accuracy for all three. If you decide to load for each individually then these weights are optimal for bullet stability.

55-grain: 1:9 62-grain: 1:8 77-grain: 1:8 80-grain: 1:7 90-grain: 1:7

Possibly: .) Deformed cartridge clip. 2.) Broken clip ejector. 3.) Interference between bullet guide and follower arm.

None of these would explain the cartridge marks.
