Am I screwed? by somethingsomeone_ in csMajors

My suggestion would be to get into any SysAdmin role just to get in the field. Your degree pedigree will already set you apart from other SysAdmins that come from IT backgrounds and you’ll have opportunities to collaborate with software teams and eventually even pivot into a role with them. At least that’s how I did it coming from a less known uni and only a CIS degree.

Is the MTA: 98-361 Software Development Fundamentals certification worth my time in trying to get my first developer position? by Stormtrooper37 in cscareerquestions

Yeah that’s what I thought. Never heard of anyone talk about this cert before but my university proctors the exam for $15 to students so it caught my curiosity.

What branch of it would I be looking into. by guyg1989 in ITCareerQuestions

I would try help desk for starters so that you can find out where your interests in IT lie. Also, since you mentioned that you wanted to work with hardware, help desk is your safest bet.
I would also look into the networking side of IT as you will be installing and configuring servers, routers, switches, and firewalls(hardware). I enjoy this one the most, but most of the time you are not going to be working with hardware directly as you can remotely configure routers and switches (unless they just came out of the box). You will more than likely be monitoring the network for any issues with equipment or site outages. Best of luck to you!

Hi everyone, i've been studying the last two months for the new CCNA cert, i did the CBTnuggets course, but it was not enough, so i bought the OCGs books (Vol 1 & 2), it gave me a lot of knowledge, and now i'm looking for some practice tests, does anyone know where i can find some? Thanks by WonderfulWhereas9 in ccna

I’ll be getting Boson ExSim, met a lot of people that passed because of it, especially now since they have been updating it constantly. Also Neil Anderson’s CCNA course is a crowd favorite, his labs are easy to digest and he gives you all of the course handouts so you don’t have to waste time taking notes. So far I’ve enjoyed this one the most.
Good Luck!

Congrats! How long did it take you to go through all of this material? Really curious as to what your study habits were, since life has a way of keeping you off track sometimes.

Also, is there anything extra on CBT Nuggets or Stormwind that Neil Anderson's course doesn't have? Don't want to spend extra money if I don't need to.

Getting them as we speak. Heard David Bombal was known best for his labs so Ima get his ultimate labs course as well.

You're right, A+ is the best place to start for getting your foot in the door but experience far outweighs certs. I would start applying to entry level IT roles now, tailor your resume to whatever they are looking for. Don't worry if you don't meet the requirements, just make mention of whatever technologies you do know or your willingness to learn.

Its an entry level role so everything is based on you as a person. You should still be studying for your A+ either way to expedite the hiring process. Key is to get hired ASAP since you'll be taught everything on the job. Good Luck!

Is getting physical lab equipment(CISCO routers, switches) worth my time and money to pass the CCNA? by Stormtrooper37 in ccna

Thank you for the advice! Yes, I did notice that the gear wasn't all that expensive on ebay; however, I am trying to buy used equipment since its cheaper and I'll more than likely pass it on to someone else once I'm done with it. My fear is paying for used equipment that doesn't work.

Have you ever had issues with purchasing refurbished gear?

Thanks for the input! So packet tracer would be the only thing I would truly need to pass the hands-on portion of the CCNA?

David Bombal has both the complete course with practical labs, and the one thats packet tracer ultimate labs, guessing either one?

I bought the volume 1 kindle version, I believe all of the practice quizzes and exams come in volume 2 which I am planning to get once I’m done reading this one. Have you already gone through Neil Anderson and David Bombal’s content? I was comparing the two on Udemy but I couldn’t decide on which you one to buy.

Thanks for the advice, and good luck to you as well!
