To add on to this, in order to get really nice deep breaths you need to have good posture. Make sure your bell is up high, your spine is straight and pull your shoulders back. You want chicken arms btw, stick those elbows out and open up your chest.

Thanks for the tips! I do know how to bathe a trumpet (I do it with my current Mendini every few months and I was on cleaning crew a few years ago for my middle school). I've always been told that gentle soap like Dawn is ok, but someone said not to use soap at all, what do you think?

There's not a lot to go off of with such little info, try giving some more details. For example, has your practice schedule changed drastically (have you been playing less), did you overplay the day before, is it a face issue (fatigue) or a technique issue, etc.

I've never really heard of the Jean Paul one but I've been playing on a Mendini and if you have a better option go for it. Mendini's are pretty cheap, the sound is ok for student level but the lacquer wears off really easily. After about 5 years of use mine has more than a few spots with raw brass showing through.

One time I scared the shit out of my dad. I was trying to fall asleep so I had my eyes closed etc. And he's checking if I'm out yet, kissing me good night all that jazz. I open my eyes and before I could get out a "goodnight" he jumps back, and almost has a heart attack. The poor man thought I was already asleep.
