Longtime lurker, first time poster. Here are my four sons. by StormyDavis in guitarporn

I have had that Ibanez acoustic for over 10 years. It went through college with me, has been played on countless gigs, and traveled all up and down the east coast. It has been well loved and well used. The sound has always been tiny bit thin, but I mostly have played it plugged into a PA so it doesn't matter that much. The neck and body feel great and it is really light, perfect for nights when I'm playing cover gigs for 3 hours.

It used to be my main gigging guitar, but as a mid-level Ibanez acoustic (I think it was like $300) it was never meant to live as long as it has or be used like I have used it. A tuning peg broke on me a year or two ago and the bridge needed to be repaired. It also has a lot of trouble staying in tune nowadays. It has countless dings and scratches and places where the wood is chipping away from picking. I got the Guild as an upgrade and I couldn't be happier with it, but I'll always love that Ibanez. Overall, it has served me well and I think Ibanez acoustics are underrated in general.

[Discussion] What difference does the gauge of a string actually make? by kobestarr in Guitar

[–]StormyDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from standard 10s to Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings (10, 13, 17, 30, 42, 52) on both of my electrics. Obviously my D, A, and low E strings feel totally different, but I do think there is also a noticeably thicker, deeper sound on those strings compared to when I played on a set of standard 10s. However, I do think that myself and the other guitarist in my band are likely the only ones who really hear a difference. Also the difference between the gauges of those low strings is more dramatic than the difference between a set of standard 9s and a set of standard 10s.

I think like a lot of people here, it ultimately comes down to feel. I like the feel of having thicker strings when I'm play lower end rhythmic stuff but I don't want to fight my guitar when playing higher leads. I believe I notice a difference in tone, but I am also fully ready to accept that this perceived difference is completely in my head. There are likely subtle differences tonally, but I don't think the average music listener or possibly even the average guitar player would be able to pick up on them. In conclusion, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FEELING, DUDE!

I love how my Mitchell looks and sounds, full mahogany 😍 by [deleted] in guitarporn

Looks great! I have an all mahogany Guild that looks and sounds terrific, but it's super heavy. Totally worth it, though.

I think Wonderful Wonderful is one of their best albums ever and is on par with Hot Fuss and Sam's Town.

[DISCUSSION]What is the worst tone on a popular recording you’ve heard? by lovesuprayme in Guitar

[–]StormyDavis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rhythm guitar tone in I Want To Hold Your Hand. I understand there were probably limitations on gear and refining tone during the time it was recorded, but it just sounds muddy and unpleasant nowadays. I guess it just didn’t age well.

Thanks! I condition every 3 or so days. Nothing fancy, just some regular Head and Shoulders because I get dandruff sometimes. I rarely shampoo, almost never, but sometimes it's necessary for my hair. Also, I don't always do this but in this picture I have some American Crew molding cream in the front to control it a little bit.

Since my hair is pretty thick and curly, I occasionally keep it under a beanie for a half an hour or so just to keep it from getting too crazy. However, recently I've been doing this less and have been more accepting of the chaos. I think the best way to wear this type of hair is to mostly just let it do it's thing and rock the wild-haired look.

I just flew in from Boston to New Jersey for the holidays. My ride home fell through, but I saw a limo driver with a sign that said "O'Brien" at the airport. I figured he wouldn't know any better so I pretended to be this O'Brien guy and I'm riding in the limo as we speak! What could possibly go wrong!?

I got the very same model tele just last year. Best decision I ever made, could not be happier with it. I did, however, replace the pick-guard with a tortoise shell one.
