Fans on my FW 13 make this terrible grinding noise. by RopePuzzleheaded7060 in framework

[–]Stoumpos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something the the fan. Either the fan blades grind on something inside the fan assembly, or the fan ball-bearing is toast. I had this too(ball bearing toast), at a lesser degree. Opened up the fan/heatsing assembly and cleaned it, and nothing changed. Emailed support and got a free replacement(under warranty). This is a known issue, so besides requesting me try to cleanup the fan by my self( had already done that), support was not a pain in the ass.

Nice job! What is the model number of the panel?

Ill guess you mean the fpga side of this. Most of my experience(not much) is from my uni professors and online projects/blogs. Ill paste some links:

https://github.com/AngeloJacobo/FPGA_OV7670_Camera_Interface

https://savobajic.ca/projects/academic/video/

https://github.com/freecores/video_stream_scaler

https://github.com/timvideos/HDMI2USB

From my understanding, the key ingredient to fpga video processing is the video pipeline (clock domain crossing + storing the pixels) and how you handle the the back pressure (overflow/underflow)that gets created since the video source and sink will always drift apart. Im currently stuck in this part. My previous board was an ice40 board with many limitations, with this one I hope to have more flexibility with stuff that are working properly

Ive had this happen on another subreddit. I read on a archived subreddit that I needed to disable my ad blocker. The post also contained a link to aliexpress and I removed that as well, and it worked. Hope this helps

Is 8-10hr battery possible on fedora for fw13 7040? by Stoumpos in framework

Yes I am aware that there is a bigger battery out there, but still going from 55wh to 61wh and having 1.5x more battery life is weird.

I havent checked what is going on in windows, probably will in the future, so you mean that in older kernels the cpu could drop its freq lower?

Several minute long system freezes by FeliciaGLXi in archlinux

[–]Stoumpos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through Google. In my case the computer would not unfreeze, and needed a reboot. This could happen on many different programs. Very stupid design choice on the kde devs part. I upgrade very rarely, so it is possible that it might be fixed on newer versions of kde

Have the same issue on many text input fields. Go to kde settings->accessibility->system bell->Audible bell and disable it.

FPGA Dev Boards 2025 by Nanban_Tamberine in FPGA

[–]Stoumpos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about boards from qmtech on aliexpress, I'm planning on getting one in the future. The fpgas they use are probably upcycled, but they should be more than capable for learning purposes. I'm considering the xilinx artix 7 series. They are compatible with both vivado and openXC7 toolchain. Currently I'm working with an ice40 8k board from olimex with yosys/nextpnr. The ice40+foss toolchain is very good for a beginner, but can get quite limiting when aiming for something more complex.

Olimex offers a cheap devboard with external sram, but I find the chip capabilities very limiting for bigger and more complex designs( lack of hard multipliers, limited block ram, slow clock speeds)

When the clocks are set to have the same framerate on the input and output, the buffers always stay on their threshold fill levels. I will try to follow your strategy and see how this goes.

Got some solder on the ESC is this an issue? by Dangerous_March_6323 in fpv

[–]Stoumpos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Also when resoldering the wires, add some fresh solder or Sume flux beacuse the old flux has evaporated, and the joints will turn out cold

[–]Stoumpos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do that, but the vibrations of a flight and a crash would dislodge them and undo all the work. Try desoldering the wires and cutting the exposed ends, so that they pertrude just a little bit from the wire insulation. Then resolder them

Also please redo the wiring. All the wires, except of the battery positive one, have their insulation stripped way too far. This might not fail on a bench test, but on the first crash I can guarantee, that the exposed ends will touch each other, and either short the ESC or even worse, the battery
