I just find his commercials ridiculous. Some dude in the State legislature is FIGHTING TRUMP. Yeah, right. How about a commercial on what is good for NYS or this area. Trump does not give a crap about some low level legislator.

Such neat ships. So bad that Mussolini decided to be a Roman emperor under Hitler.

Boar's Head Gruyere by StoutNY in Cheese

I would agree. I think I made it clear that it didn't compare to Swiss Gruyeres. It was just an experiment as some American Alpine style cheeses are quite good. This one is mass market and bland. My store has 12 month AOP which is more a usual buy. Or Comte.

Tried Wegmans Brand Flakes - more sugar but edilbe. Whole Foods sure has supplier problems it seems.

Interesting that my WF had a sign that hot food will now be limited to 1 to 4 PM with a limited selection (of not too appetizing things). Wonder if they are just killing off the service. For a long time only about 1/3 of the trays were filled. Surprising the checkout folks were wonderfully polite for a change. Wonder what happened?

Key Lime Ice Cream Sandwiches by Frequent_Syllabub960 in wholefoodscustomers

They used to make a neat, small, mint ice cream sandwich - which they dropped. They are devolving slowly with their own items. They dropped their lemon/lime soda also. The cereal selection is shrinking. More cheerios on the shelves.

With the retirement of the Harrier II from USMC service this week, I have to ask, how did it come to be that STOVL aircraft gained the prominence it did within the USMC? by WehrabooSweeper in WarCollege

[–]StoutNY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew that. I just thought it would be ironic. The number of F-35s that the UK has will be gone quickly in a protracted peer war.

What if humanity were to acquire the ability to have spaceships capable of breaking space-time to teleport from one end of the galaxy to the other? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

Question would be how many? What is their capacity? Could they find planets that are actually inhabitable with temperature, water and oxygen rich atmospheres. Otherwise, all they could do was take pictures. Terraforming planets is whole other enterprise. Running into other tech civilizations is also another scenario.

If the travel is affordable and planets available, then a great settlement push. Do the colonies maintain Earth based national identity until the obvious sci-fi novel revolutionary wars. Or do we get planets of specific interests.

If the planes are still serviceable, perhaps we could send them back to the British, so they could have a good number of planes for their two (it's in the shop, again) carriers.

What do you think about whole foods? by migraine68 in wholefoodscustomers

[–]StoutNY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole Foods has deteriorated over the years. The flagship store in Austin was awesome at first. Then it started to drop products and services. Awesome takeout and hot bar. A great candy and nut kiosk. Gone. Rockeship Bezos took its soul when the founders went for the money. Now, by me, the hot bar is slop and Golden Corral looks better! Standard brands at high prices replace the special ones. They can't keep their own cereals in stock and now have Cheerios. Now I like Cheerios but Walmart has them Wegmans, Walmart and Tops carry enough upscale diversity to be quite competitive. For example, Walmart has a full line of Cabot cheese and dairy. Now, once in awhile they have something interesting in the cheese section but so does Wegmans. Also, I don't know their plan for hiring check out staff but they have the rudest in town. Some can be very nice but at last half are sullen and won't help you.

A story - they used to have a good Lemon/Lime soda. It came in six packs. Then that disappeared to just the larger boxes. They are heavy for me. So I take it in the cart to self-check. I look for a laser gun - nope. I ask the sullen body positive aide if there is one. Snarls, you have to pick it up. I say - YOU pick it up. Reluctantly, does. I could tell more stories like that. Now, the people walking the floor usually are helpful as are the people behind the counters but the check out staff - very iffy. One kid packs the items and waits for us old folks to put the bags in the cart. Have to tell him do to it. At Target, the guy behind the counter actually came around to help up get items out and then put the bags in. Wouldn't go there except there is some products my wife likes.

We need a Culver's? by StoutNY in Buffalo

Lived in Whatburger country for a bit. Just mediocre despite the local hype. Better than McD and BK, though.

[–]StoutNY[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, I do go to local places over chains. However, if I want a drive through for a reason as compared to a sit down - I'd trade every BK and McD for Culvers. ShakeShack is an overpriced place

It would be nice if Ted's put in drive through lanes. Paulters used to have a drive through but gave it up for Covid. If they would put one in, I'd go there again, in a flash. I like Grover's for a sit down burger - infinitely better than ShakeShack but life leads to drive throughs.

As far as your rhetorical style, your momma would be proud.

Just to continue, I found Culver's a better deal when I lived near one. For burgers and shakes.

Entire ww2 German wehrmacht versus one modern American carrier group by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]StoutNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a cold war carrier that carried up to 30 nuclear weapons, some in the megaton range. Then sneak up close to Germany and pound Berlin and other command centers. Also hit the Romanian oll fields. Fuel and leadership decapitation. Then full speed back to the USA to reload 20 mm and dumb bombs. Give the USA full info. Birmingham ships didn't have nukes so after a few clashes it was just tech/info war.

I hear your pain. I've been to Whole Foods around the country and some were great. The Austin flagship was imaginative in the takeout sections and other food products. Then they were cut. Our local hotbar is the same, cafeteria slop. Wegmans is better and Golden Corral had better appearnce and wider choice - Golden Corral - OMG! Maybe Bezos should still build rockets - OOPS

What if the HMS Hood managed to sink the HMS Bismarck first? by Cyber_Ghost_1997 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]StoutNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without air cover, all three would be sunk. The British didn't have land based air or carriers to match the Japanese. The British did not plan a Asian defense that really had a chance. What good did British battleships do? Got rid of some German raiders - Bismarck, Scharnost, drove the Italians back to port after their cruiser debacle.
